As Systems Engineer, you will primarily be responsible for the engineering, configuration, installation, maintenance, and upgrade of physical and virtual servers, storage, backups, and disaster recovery planning.
Management Services, Server, Storage, Backup
Research, evaluate, and recommend hardware and software for servers, storage (SAN/NAS), and backup solutions;
Configure, operate, and upgrade on-premises and cloud infrastructure;
Manage Compute and Storage resources, on-premises or in Azure Cloud;
Implement infrastructure disaster recovery plans;
Perform daily system checks, verifying the integrity and availability of all involved infrastructure resources and key processes;
Assist with advanced troubleshooting (proficient in all levels and phases of systems support), backup, and archiving;
Identify, diagnose, and resolve connection, reliability, or performance issues;
Contact vendor technical support for Priority 1 incidents and requests;
Develop scripts to automate repetitive administration tasks;
Participate in an after-hours on-call support rotation and implement solutions (upgrades, new releases, …), patching and deployment activities after hours as needed;
Validate system upgrades and patches when required.
Core IT Infrastructure Technology / Operations Duties
Partner with other infrastructure Team Members to learn, develop and enhance the skills needed to support software-based infrastructure;
Ensure that IT Services are delivered effectively to business customers. This includes the execution of SOPs, management of IT Incidents/Problems and IT Changes as per well-defined ITIL processes, as implemented in the ITSM system (ServiceNow);
Perform system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all involved infrastructure resources; Ensure that performance, scalability, and security is maintained and optimized;
Identify opportunities to innovate, extend and enhance service delivery wherever possible;
Participate in disaster recovery plan and practicing recovery operations;
Consult with senior peers to learn through experience;
Partner with key vendors to maintain an understanding of new technology and leading practices;
Cooperate closely with other Zone / Regional / Group IT Infra resources.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or similar
Certification in VMware, NetApp, Microsoft Azure or similar technologies is a plus;
Agile or ITIL Foundation certification is a plus.
Minimum of 3-7 years of experience in supporting Server environments, preferably Windows 2012 or 2016 Server, in managing VMware virtual server environments, and in managing (incl. designing, configuring, upgrading, etc.) storage solutions and backup solutions;
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in managing public cloud-based (MS Azure preferred) (Server & Storage) resources (in multiple availability regions);
Solid prior experience with Dell, Lenovo and NetApp technologies;
Experience with all or some of the most important hardware vendors like IBM, Dell, Lenovo, Nutanix or HP;
Experience with NetApp storage technologies or alternatives like EMC, EqualLogic, or Nimble;
Experience with backup tools like Commvault or Veeam.
Experience in IT Infrastructure and Operations administration, engineering, architecture (enterprise scale), including demonstrated working experience with:
Microsoft Windows server 2012 R2 and newer;
Virtualization technologies, Hyper-V or VMware is preferable;
Automation and self-service solutions.
Scripting languages (PowerShell is preferable);
Good knowledge of Azure fundamentals (IAM, network, security, etc.), as well as working experience with the (provisioning of / migration to / support of) Azure Server & Storage resources;
Hands-on experience in creating a resource group, virtual networks, load balancer, virtual machine, attaching storage disks, amongst other operations in cloud, etc.;
Experience supporting IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS based solutions;
Experience with Server / Storage backup & disaster recovery preparedness, monitoring, testing, and response;
A solid understanding of the Linux and Windows operating system, virtual machines and networking fundamentals;
Experience monitoring production systems, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting;
Experience with the Agile methodology and its concepts;
A good understanding of ITIL-based processes.
Excellent writing and communication skills (fluent spoken and written English);
Passion for technology and staying current with emerging security trends;
Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels in an organization (internal employees, contractors, managers, 3rd parties, etc.);
Ability to troubleshoot complex problems, and translate technical issues into understandable business language for end users;
Must be able to work in a team environment with a “can do” attitude, in an amorphous environment; embraces change; resilient for setbacks;
Able to multi-task and prioritize (within tight timelines and high client expectations), provide clear and documented status updates/metrics to management;
Knowledge of laboratory (or similar regulated/controlled environment) operations and processes is a plus;
Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements (GxP, GDPR, …) is a plus.
