    System Administration Engineer

    Job Overview

    For our client we are looking for System Administration Engineers to perform day-to-day System Administration tasks of Linux, VMware, Clearcase and Atlassian environments as well as to provide support to different projects. Given that as the service runs 24/7, the job entails the service for selected technical systems at Maastricht UAC also during night shifts or weekends, by 24/7 coverage reserve duty (R-Duty) services. Work performed during night or weekends has a special remuneration scheme and will be performed only after the mandatory training has been completed.     Tasks & Responsibilities

    • In context of day-to-day system administration, specific tasks in the following domains need to be performed:
    • System administration, configuration and patching and user support of the Linux based systems within the Non-Operational environment at Maastricht UAC (approx. 450 systems, with growing trend);
    • Administration and user support for the Clearcase environment at Maastricht UAC;
    • Administration and user support for the Atlassian Toolsuite implemented at Maastricht UAC (main tools are jira, confluence, Bitbucket and git);
    • Administration and user support for the DevOps related tools and pipelines implemented at Maastricht UAC;
    • Systematic health check of these environments and the related backup systems;
    • Technical support to projects and activities;
    • User Administration, supporting user intake and outflow;
    • Coordination and support of interventions and technical activities with external service providers;
    • Development of scripts and tools for the automation of system administration tasks;
    • Creation and maintenance of a system inventory and report;
    • Maintenance and updates of documentation related to the tasks performed.
    • Perform a weekly check of the following Backup status, and VM snaps;
    • Capacity reporting;
    • Clearcase status and health;
    • Manage the creation of new and removal of obsolete users in our User Databases.
    • Handle day-to-day tasks like password resets or assignment.
    • Restoring infrastructure services in case of service interruption and updating of related documentation and procedures while on R-Duty.

    Requirements

    Mandatory educational requirements:
    Bachelor Degree in computer science or a related subject, or 5 years of relevant professional experience
    Mandatory requirements:
    Good understanding of VMware and/or KVM;
    Proficiency in English (oral and written) and ability to provide clear technical analysis and correct reports;
    Ability to work in a multicultural environment and in a team;
    Quality and Customer minded approach;
    Attitude towards timely delivery;
    Relevant certifications like an LPI certification or similar are considered an advantage;
    Proven experience in applying DevOps and/or Agile tools and methods and technologies are considered an advantage.
