The DB&O group (Deliver Beam & Optics) is one of the pillars of the Research and Development organization for our total Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). This group is committed to develop cutting edge technologies, modules and software that enable our company to deliver world class TEM microscopes for our demanding markets and customers. The DB&O group is a global group with members in the city of Brno in Czech and Eindhoven in the Netherlands. This group is part of the full Material Science Division of Thermo fisher.
As the Sr Manager R&D for the Deliver Beam & Optics Group, you are responsible for managing an enthusiastic team of employees located in Eindhoven and Brno (Czech) and assure the operational output of this group. This operational output of this important R&D group does also consist of a large Software component, this Software components is delivered through an Functional SW group on an R&D level, where DB&O leader need to assure the right input and delivery timelines in planning and execution process, progress and results. The position reports directly into the Sr Director of TEM Solutions and is part of the management team of TEM Solutions. Total Yearly R&D operational budget is about 5M$ per year, with high level of cutting edge technologies delivered through the own organizations or with technology partner suppliers in the field of Electron Optics; Mechanics, Mechatronics and high technology level of metal suppliers.
As Sr Manager R&D you are leading your team with focus on coaching the development of individuals and team on competences and skills, both soft skills as capability skills around our cutting edge technology.
Together with the management team of TEM Solutions you are responsible for delivering the products according to the agreed roadmap, while you also play a major role in translating the value to the customer into an executable technology roadmap. Requirements and competencies:
Typically, a university degree is required or a combination of education and experience that demonstrate the required skills.
10 years of experience in Research & Development, 5+ year people management experience, mainly in high-tech and high complexity capital equipment industry.
Proven ability to interact effectively with cross-functional and cross-cultural teams to achieve significant business objectives.
Demonstrated record of leadership and management; must be able to lead a team instead of managing a team.
Excellent communication and influencing skills are required.
Strong financial and business acumen.
Demonstrated ability to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining cooperation of cross-functional, multi-cultural groups and sites without damaging relationships.
Fluent in English and strong in local language (verbal and in writing).
