For our restaurant in Amsterdam, we are currently looking for a Sous Chef to be the right-hand of our Head Chef. The Sous Chef is a crucial part of our team. As second in command in our kitchen, you'll play a large role in ensuring that guests are consistently wowed with stunning and delicious dishes to enhance their experience at The Avocado Show. The right combination of ambition, leadership, motivational skills and professionalism is essential. Ultimately our Sous Chef is responsible for consistently delivering The Avocado Show promise of stunning Pretty Healthy Food to our guests.
The Avocado Show was founded in 2017, and - what's in a name - creates pretty healthy food made with/from avocados. With over 150,000 followers on Instagram, restaurants in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and many more countries to come, and the avocado being named the most popular fruit in the Netherlands last year - we are well on our way to take over the world and share our pretty healthy food with everyone!
What will you be doing?
You will produce high quality plates both design and taste wise and ensure appealing plate presentation that revolves around avocado.
You ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area (HACCP).
You make sure the kitchen operates in a timely manner that meets our quality standards by supervising, coordinating, delegating and organizing the execution of the work to kitchen staff and assisting as needed.
You fill in for the Head Chef in planning and directing food preparation when necessary.
You monitor food stock, check freshness, discard out-of-date items and place orders.
You are able to adjust recipes to meet customers' needs and requests in case of need aligned with the company standards (eg reduce salt, remove dairy etc.).
Resourcefully solve any issues that arise and seize control of any problematic situations.
What do you bring to the table?
You are full of energy and have a positive attitude that is contagious.
You have proven work experience as a Sous Chef. Specialist cook's diploma or culinary schooling is an advantage, preferably SVH-cook (Social Hygiene Cook) training or similar.
You have great time management skills and have the ability to remain calm while undertaking various tasks simultaneously.
You have an excellent record of kitchen and staff management and are able to work successfully without constant direction.
You work accurately and are quick in handling emergency situations and providing solutions.
Your knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes is up-to-date and you are a perfectionist at heart with an eye for detail.
You are a strong communicator and team player and are familiar with sanitation regulations.
You are able to communicate clearly in English (additional languages are a plus).
You are flexible in working hours (evenings, weekends, holidays) and thrive in a pleasant chaos in which you like to create order by following procedures.
