The sensory scientist will be part of the global R&D organization and will be based in Zwolle, The Netherlands. We are looking for a candidate with a broad interest in infant and medical nutrition product development and consumer research. The role will report into the Manager EU Sensory & Flavor technology, works in close cooperation with the Flavor and Sensory Scientists in Zwolle, Columbus (USA) and Singapore.
Roles & Responsibilities
Responsible for sensory analyses of products manufactured and/or developed in EU as well as support commercial area in this field.
Lead sensory testing in the EU region with both the descriptive sensory panels within Abbott EU R&D and internal and external consumer panels and report subsequently.
Serve as a sensory expert in EU and MENAP region (descriptive and consumer) on project teams. Provide strategic leadership in recommending and executing sensory testing (descriptive and consumer).
Gather sensory trend information and translate into sensory strategy to brand teams.
Identify ideal/target sensory profile for the Abbott Nutrition product concepts using competitor product and market product category review from internal sensory department or external industry partners.
Lead and participate in professionally-trained panels (descriptive panels) including responsibility for reporting and interpreting data generated by the descriptive panels.
Initiate and coordinate external consumer testing programs including interpreting and reporting data generated by the external partners
Lead special sensory projects.
Work effectively with external consultants / contract labs.
Responsible for training program to regional R&D, Plant, TPM personnel in sensory techniques and organize new descriptive panelists training.
Contribute to base product organoleptic improvement research projects.
Actively participate in tasting sessions of flavor development proposals.
Educational background and Work Experience
MS Food Science (specialization in Sensory science is preferred) or related scientific field
or BS in Food Science/Chemistry with 5+ years progressive and practical related experience sufficient to demonstrate equivalency
No taste or smell dysfunctions or food allergies restrictions.
Experience with descriptive analyses, qualitative and quantitative methodological consumer research
Experience in interpretation of sensory data
Ability to serve multiple clients and adapt to various working styles
Excellent communication skills (verbal and in writing)
Be able to prioritize workload and meet challenging deadlines
Minimal 5 year experience in a similar function
Travel up to 10-15% of the time
