The (Senior) Counsel Privacy and Data Protection will lead the privacy teams legal support of
multiple global initiatives focusing on data, digital marketing, digitalization of our businesses, information security and (cloud) procurement, and ensure compliance with global privacy and data related laws and the Aegon Binding Corporate rules while enabling innovation.
The (Senior) Counsel will work as part of a cross-functional global team of privacy and data protection professionals, dedicated to ensure compliance while continuing to enable (business) solutions
The position will report to the Group Chief Privacy Officer.
Role and Responsibilities
Provide advice to Aegons Global Technology Service (GTS) teams which include the Global
Information Security Officer, Global Procurement Officer and Global Chief Technology officer as well as our Global Head of Architecture.
Ensure alignment and compliance with Aegons policies, procedures and processes as well
as with global privacy and data related laws including data localization, outsourcing and
consumer protection requirements.
Understand and analyze global privacy and data protection laws for those jurisdictions
where Aegon has activities. Support in making impact assessments of these laws and apply
the concepts in these laws to challenging business and data constructs and processes.
Facilitate the creation of employee engagement programs that prioritize compliance with
privacy and data protection laws and regulations
Provide training to internal teams on privacy, data protection, global privacy and regulatory
developments, and how to implement Privacy by Design across Aegons applications and
Perform detailed data flows and analyze of laws and regulations in collaboration with Aegon
Business units to enable business operations and assist in achieving strategic company
Coordinate, in conjunction with the appropriate Privacy Officers and/or Privacy Officers network, official investigations, data leaks, or inquiries into the processing of personal data by
a public authority;
Support in the negotiation of complex data related agreements, quickly identifying the legal
and strategic implications of contractual terms and conditions
Act as a Aegon wide point of expertise and as an interface for sharing best practices across
Aegon; support local operations where needed;
Strengthen partnerships across the enterprise to ensure data privacy and protection is a
key factor considered in any products, processes and procedures
Appreciate the nexus between data privacy, data protection, and the use of data to advance major corporate strategic goals.
About what we are looking for
LLM Degree required
Certification(s) from the IAPP required
Expertise and Knowledge:
Several years of privacy and data protection experience required
Legal experience with new technologies and data concepts, data-related commercial agreements, processing of human resource data or data-driven products is preferred.
Expertise with regulatory and privacy frameworks like GDPR and Binding Corporate Rules
as well as familiarity with industry best practices for collection and use of data is preferred
Understanding of Data Protection and broader Information Security techniques and technical capabilities.
Understanding of digital marketing activities, robotizing processes and building in Privacy
Understanding of Cloud contracting and (critical outsourcing) requirements.
Ability to readily analyse legal requirements into practical and actionable advice, guidance
and policy to internal and external audiences
Creating thinker able to support innovation while still managing risk
Motivated self-starter with ability to excel at multi-tasking in a fast moving environment
Strong analytical capabilities and written and oral communication skills. Attention to detail
is a must.
Very good planning, prioritizing and goal setting skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven experience in relationship building and partnering; must work well in both team and individual settings
Ability to work well as part of a team geographically dispersed highly skilled professionals.
