Senior Mechanical Engineer - Research & Development TEM
The Beam & Optics group is one of the pillars of TEM Solutions, the Research and Development organization for Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM). This group is committed to develop cutting edge technologies, modules and software that enable us to deliver world class TEM microscopes for our demanding markets and customers.
With the ongoing developments in physics and industry the requirements for optical performance of these TEM microscopes are continuously growing. Aligning well with Advanced Technology Development and several selected collaboration-partners this group is striving to convert the most promising technological concepts into real products for creating and guiding electron beams for imaging with near-perfect optical performance.

The increasing demand for developing specific electron optical solutions, especially designs compliant with biological safety levels, has opened a challenging position for a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer. Participating in internal development projects to extend our product roadmap is as important as collaborating directly with our operations organization (manufacturing and service) to develop and support customer specific non-standard solutions.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for working with, and occasionally leading, a group of Mechanical Engineers and Designers in the successful launch of new products, projects, and processes central to the success of our TEM product lines.
In the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer you will be part of a proud and enthusiastic team of scientists, engineers, and software developers. The position reports directly into the manager of the sub-team Mechanical Engineering within the Beam and Optics group.
We welcome above all candidates that have experience in working in a multi-disciplinary, highly technical environment. This position is ideal for an adaptive, hands-on Mechanical Engineer with seniority in the mechanical engineering domain as well as in personality and communication, who can easily transition from one project to the next with little or no direct supervision. Experience in leading projects is strongly preferred.
The following expectations of education and experience are key elements for a successful candidate:
Typically requires a University Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Typically requires approximately 10 years’ experience as a Mechanical Engineer, preferably in the design and manufacturing of high-end equipment.
Precision mechanics design, integration, error budgeting, and analysis required.
Experience in project management is strongly preferred.
A strong materials background with experience in vacuum, contamination, and RGA analysis is strongly desired.
Expertise with high voltage design is preferable.
Unigraphics NX, Teamcenter PDM experienced.
Experience with FMEA, Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and Design of Experiments is desirable.
Ability to travel (<10%) for supplier involvement and process evaluations.
