(Senior) Associate ABN AMRO Ventures
At ABN AMRO Ventures we invest in the most talented and relevant up-and-coming technology companies to boost and accelerate ABN AMRO’s digitalisation, strategy and innovation.
With €100 million in assets under management, we invest growth capital (series A and beyond) in innovative technology companies in Europe, the United States and Israel with investments between €2.5 and €10 million. The companies we fund are typically in their growth phase and contribute to the purpose of ABN AMRO.
The collaboration between the fund and the portfolio companies goes far beyond capital: we actively provide knowledge and expertise, access to the bank and its systems, and support.
The ABN AMRO Ventures team make the difference by establishing a link at the right moment between the business and the (fin)tech company in order to create value for all stakeholders. It’s a small team, so you’ll be highly visible and make a substantial impact. We’re looking for a (senior) Associate with significant deal / investment experience (minimum two years), to join us to convert our strategy into even more meaningful investments and partnerships.
In this role, you will be responsible for deals involving the fund, plus the investments, follow-on investments (where appropriate) and exits. You will be permanently on the look-out for tech companies that can make the difference for the bank. As a sparring partner for the various business lines, you will facilitate introductions and share the observations and insights you’ve observed in the market. In doing so, you will also actively help senior management to develop strategic innovation themes. You will bring external trends and developments into ABN AMRO so that these investment opportunities can be evaluated and selected. The investments will be assessed by a bank-wide Investment Committee for whom you will prepare the necessary documents and present key findings and recommendations. You will be jointly responsible for the investment proposals and the execution of the deals.
Once the investment has been made, you will monitor the performance of the portfolio, and use your knowledge and network to help both them and the bank to further accelerate. To this end, you will work with colleagues from Retail, Corporate and Private Banking, the Innovation Centre and experts in various domains, internal and external. You will also maintain a network in the (fin)tech and investment / venture capital community on behalf of the bank.
The ABN AMRO Ventures team currently consists of 3-4 FTE. There is a direct line from the fund to a bank-wide investment committee consisting of the senior executive management of ABN AMRO. The fund operates across all the ABN AMRO business lines, so you will have a lot of exposure both vertically and horizontally. The fund is supported strongly by various internal departments and stakeholders, such as Legal, Compliance and Finance.
You have experience in making investment deals independently within venture capital or private equity (2 years minimum is a must). You have a real passion for the investment industry and an above-average interest in the digital and (fin)tech sector. You are creative and deal-driven and have an absolute can-do mentality. Your entrepreneurial, self-starter approach combined with a measure of goodwill, will enable you to build and maintain a broad external and internal network in order to bring the investments made to a success.
If you think this sounds like you, check your profile:
a strong command of Dutch and English as an absolute requirement;
experience of venture capital and/or private equity structures;
proven practical work experience and analytical skills to degree level, combined with at least two years of relevant work experience in investments;
