Research technician 100-plus Study | Human Genetics
Almost 300.000 people suffer from dementia in the Netherlands, and this number is expected to double every 20 years. Yet, our understanding of dementia aetiology and effective treatments are still lacking. With the 100-Plus Study, embedded in the Department of Human Genetics and the Alzheimer Center at the Amsterdam UMC, we study individuals who reached at least 100 years of age without developing symptoms of dementia. We investigate their cognitive performance, genetics and brains, and thereby hope to understand the biological processes that make these individuals resistant to dementia.
The 100-Plus study has included almost 400 self-reported cognitively healthy centenarians and almost 90 centenarians have donated their brain. With these valuable data and biological materials, we are getting closer to understanding what processes might protect these centenarians. The 100-Plus study is expanding, hence we are looking for an enthusiastic research technician to help us with the laboratory work.
As a research technician at the 100-Plus study, you will be working on multiple projects investigating brain tissue and other biological material collected from centenarians. The work will consist of a variety of techniques including DNA and RNA sequencing, cell culturing and immunohistochemistry.
