The Challenge: It is poorly understood how improving the environmental footprint of agricultural systems can improve the economic performance of agri-businesses. There is the need for quantitative sustainability analyses to demonstrate the business case of reduced environmental footprint.
Your assignment: Dive into the business model and strategy of a major multinational and support them by developing an analytical model that will help to compare different sustainable interventions and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of their sustainability efforts against realistic targets. What are realistic carbon neutrality targets for a company? What climate-smart interventions are the most effective and efficient to implement to reach that target? What are the costs (and ROI) of adopting such interventions? What is the business case for improving environmental performance? What is needed to make that happen? Go one step further by designing the model to provide complete financial statements that enable the client to make well-informed investment decisions.
In your day-to-day work this would translate into:
Tackling complex sustainability challenges
Using the power of data and quantitative analysis to drive positive change
Beginning to develop expert knowledge on relevant topics in sustainable agricultural commodity value chains, multi-stakeholder collaboration, landscape-level approaches, and organization & implementation
Being the data-driven support our consultants need to excel
Playing an active role in the growth of the organization with internal (e.g., recruitment, trainings) and external roles (e.g., business development, communications)
In order for you to grow with us, we would like you to have (at least part of) the following education, mind-set, talents, skills and experiences:
Environmental engineering / Bio-systems engineering, ideally with agricultural focus
In case you have experience with LCA analyses and material flow analyses these backgrounds also apply:
Economics, Econometrics, Mathematics
Talents and skills
Strong Excel skills
Ability to work with large datasets and perform quantitative analysis, such as statistical analysis and cost-benefit analysis, with a track record to prove it
Ability to form hypotheses and structures, and carry out analysis with an affinity for problem-solving
Between 1 and 3 years of professional and relevant work experience
Experience with coding: R, Python, (Matlab, Stata)
Experience with Life-Cycle Assessments (LCAs), Carbon footprint, Environmental modelling // Material flow analysis, the agricultural sector, economic modelling and/or Sustainability (quantitative) assessment
Wanting to become a Consultant
