Process engineers Up Stream and Downstream Processing
Janssen Vaccines & Prevention, one of the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, is dedicated to bringing meaningful innovation to global health. Our teams focus on the discovery, development, manufacture, and marketing of vaccines to protect people worldwide from infectious diseases. These range from respiratory infections like respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and pathogens of global concern such as Ebola and COVID-19.
In our organization, entrepreneurial people work in a dynamic culture in which innovation and a 'can do' state of mind are the central points. In order to strengthen our team, we are continuously looking for enthusiastic, talented people who have the ambition to develop themselves and can be of value to Janssen.
As a contractor, you work together with other process engineers and scientists. You will follow diverse soft skill training and you will have monthly individual coach sessions with an experienced career coach. This is called the Scientist Academy of Procam, one of the partners of Janssen. Procam will also conduct a part of this recruitment process (see below: Recruitment process) and If you get accepted by our hiring managers, you will be offered to be employed by Procam for the duration of the Scientist Academy.
USP and DSP departments
The ‘Up Stream Processing’ (USP) department and ‘Down Stream Processing’ (DSP) department are part of the Drug Substance Development group, located in Leiden and are responsible for early- as well as late-stage development of scalable, pharmaceutical-grade production processes for viral vaccines. The developed production processes are transferred into production facilities for the production of clinical batches and scaled-up and transferred for commercial production. This is done in close collaboration with many partners in Discovery, Development and Supply Chain in an international environment.
USP develops and characterizes bioreactor production processes for adenovirus vectored vaccines with mammalian cell lines as a production platform. DSP develops and characterizes processes for purifying USP harvest into Drug Substance.
Within both departments, the current focus is on developing a robust process for the manufacturing of the COVID-19 vaccine and transferring the technology to multiple production facilities, including process validation and technical support. In order to support these activities, we are looking for multiple process engineers.
We are looking for motivated process engineers who can ensure a smooth technology transfer from development into the commercial GMP facilities. In addition, hands-on support for troubleshooting, optimization, process monitoring, modeling and data collection, management, and analysis are key components of the function.
You will represent USP or DSP in the multidisciplinary project team(s), being responsible for process engineering in that project, in close connection to all relevant stakeholders. In order to design or improve the process, you translate the development of production goals into actions and accomplish the targets by delivering study designs and study plans, analyze data, write technical reports, and implement the recommendations in close connection with the customer.
You have a PhD or PDeng in a relevant discipline in biopharmaceutical engineering, biotechnology or chemistry or M.Sc. with relevant years of hand-on process engineering experience.
You have affinity with data management, analysis and modelling.
USP: you have affinity with bioreactor process technology/large scale production processes.
DSP: you have experience with downstream process development with hands-on experience with unit operations like IEX chromatography and UF/DF. scale-up/scale-down of DSP processes.
Enthusiasm to support production by hands-on presence during production
Demonstrated communication capabilities and the ability to bridge between production and development
Data-analysis (data management, analysis and modelling)
Recruitment and selection for this Janssen position is partly outsourced to Procam. You can apply for this specific position in combination with the training program, for which a resume and motivation letter are required. If you have a preference, please describe for which department.
The further process will be:
Screening of resume and motivation letter. If additional information is needed a short interview by phone may be required.
Assessment day by Procam (online Teams meeting), consisting of capability tests, a personality questionnaire, an interview with a Procam assessment psychologist, and an interview with a Career coach. As a result of this assessment day, a personal profile will be drawn up.
Online interview(s) with Janssen managers.
