We are looking for a Principal Scientist Human Milk Research & Analytical Science based in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
As Principal Scientist Human Milk Research & Analytical Science you will be initiating, performing, managing, and supporting state of the art scientific research program aimed at new insights and translation of science into innovative nutritional concepts for health- and life span.
You will design and govern a science program combining analytics, life sciences, and nutrition within a multidisciplinary team. This will happen in close connection with other functions at R&I (e.g., Life Sciences, Clinical Studies, and Advanced Technology) as well as with commercial functions, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Operations and Finance to deliver and build the evidence pipeline and ensure scientific substantiation. You will interact intensively with the academic world and will seek for new collaborations and setting up a strong public-private partnership that support our business goals
You will be based in the state of art R&I Center in Utrecht and will be part of Advanced Health & Science and will report to the Science Director Human Milk Research & Analytical Science.
The main mission of our Advanced Health & Science pillar is to design, create and deliver a pipeline of new concepts and solutions based in the Nutrition and Life Sciences to benefit our brands, acceleration units, and Danone’s local needs. Our diverse, international teams lead the way in Nutrition & Life & Analytical Science, Human Evidence & Insight Generation, supported by Planning & Quality, and Communication & Activation experts.
The composition of human milk (nutrients and other bioactive factors) is uniquely tailored to infant’s specific demands for growth and development and is influenced by diet, genes, lifestyle and health of mother and child. WHO (World Health Organization) recommends exclusive breastfeeding (BF) for the first six months, and continued BF with adequate complementary foods for up to two years and beyond. The Research on human milk relies on studying the structure, function and biology of molecules and cellular ingredients and their specific interplay, respectively. The insights gathered are not only relevant for health in early life, but also for the entire health- and lifespan of an individual, thus, being important for global public health. Progress in this exciting area can only be achieved by applying strong multidisciplinary expertise including analytical- and life science strategies and involving also key public-private research networks.
You hold a PhD degree in health science with a senior research track record on analytics, life sciences and nutrition (preferably in pregnancy and lactation area).
Next to that you are
flexible and able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment with competing and changing priorities
motivated to learn broader aspects of conducting science in a business environment and open to understand the needs beyond R&I
strong and tangible experience in translating science for various stakeholders
a powerful communicator, able to lead challenging conversations/presentations to interact with internal stakeholders at Danone Nutricia Research and with external stakeholders, such as universities, hospitals and or other companies/spinoffs
a strong, pro-active leader, who can manage a complex program health and science benefits in an international environment.
entrepreneurial - able to create possible options within the context of a strict regulatory environment and provide positive challenge. You are comfortable in forecasting risks and strongly focused in turning them into opportunities when possible
preferably experienced in working in a business and academic and/or hospital environment
