The External Affairs and Policy Team, identify and build strong working connections with funders, policymakers, researchers, and societies to drive and influence positive policies around research and scholarly communication through our values-led approach. By providing external encouragement and support, having a voice and input into industry and government consultations, we build and enhance the T&F unique profile and brand as a trusted, collaborative and differentiated member of the academic research community.
Responsible for supporting the delivery of strategies across EMEA to influence research, innovation, digital and licensing policy among government, public agencies, research funders, and institutions. The Policy Analyst will build an in-depth understanding of the research communication ecosystem to inform and support the proactive drafting of T&F policy, whilst working to establish a strong internal knowledge base within the company on key policy initiatives.
What you’ll be doing:
Work alongside Chief Communications Officer to establish the new German office as fully operating T&F hub.
Support Policy and Commercial Analysis Manager on preparing research briefs and data/trend analysis.
Identify and share insights into emerging political and policy trends across the EMEA region, anticipating issues, risks and opportunities.
Contribution to the development of T&F’s positions on emerging and relevant public policy issues, working closely with other business departments.
Develop internal training programmes for colleagues across T&F, alongside documentation management and administration.
Support the Policy and External Affairs team at meetings and conferences related to policy and research priorities.
Stakeholder mapping and outreach to key figures across the research community, to support external advocacy efforts across the EMEA region.
Set up and maintain an effective policy monitoring mechanism to ensure key external political developments are captured and translated into business insights.
Contribution to external communication strategy and outputs.
Host and update internal policy hub and external facing policy website.
Administration of Policy Advisory Committee through preparation of papers, agendas and minute taking.
Relevant experience working in policy development and / or research
Some knowledge of policymaking process at government and Institution level in EMEA countries
Broad understanding of the current and potential future needs of the researcher customer
Awareness of the publishing industry generally, and the broader market for research content
Strong grasp of research policy and dedication to working towards policy solutions that benefit society
Ability to quickly assimilate complex issues across multiple areas, including technical and regulatory issues, and distil and communicate them effectively
Powerful curiosity that keeps you ahead on policy debates and issues
Strong analytical approach to tasks, including analysing data from different perspectives
Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail
Strong ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a wide audience

This role will be based remotely from home although occasional travel to our offices will be required.
