    Meat to please you! At the Vegetarian Butcher we’re looking for new ‘meat on the block’ to join us in the biggest food revolution of all times.

    Ten years ago on October 4th (world animal day) Jaap Korteweg, 9th generation farmer and meat lover, founded The Vegetarian Butcher. Together with a devoted team of chefs and scientists he created innovate and sustainable meat successors directly from beans and legumes. Great tasting meat products, perfect i-meat-ations in flavor, texture and juiciness, but without the use of the animal.

    This was the start of our mission to become the biggest butcher in the world, by making plant-based meat the new standard. We try to make our mission a reality Through Craftmanship, Human Connections, Entrepreneurship, Rebelliousness, Humour, Passion, Optimism, Sustainability and Pioneering. When Unilever acquired the company end of 2018 they joined in on this mission and committed to accelerate the biggest food revolution of all time.

    Since the acquisition of the The Vegetarian Butcher by Unilever, the company is scaling up fast. In this journey at exponential pace we are looking for a Packaging Assistant Manager who has the passion to change the world!

    This role is placed in the Vegetarian Butcher Research & Development organization, whilst being present in The Vegetarian Butcher. This means the job is physically based out of Breda and Hive in Wageningen, where the Global Vegetarian Butcher and Supply Chain leadership of the Vegetarian Butcher resides.

    THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF YOUR ‘CHOP’ TO BE DONE

    Key Accountabilities: the person working in this position will be responsible for:

    Lead / support packaging development from brief definition through to proving manufacture at scale on innovation, renovation and operational (cost savings, quality, complexity reduction) projects, on time in full, by following best practice in packaging. Translate consumer insights, technical requirements and business needs identified by The Vegetarian Butcher brand and translate them into packaging solutions; Liaise with packaging convertors, SU, 3PM and material Suppliers in the development of packaging components. Manage packaging projects with different scopes and complexity levels; Support on laboratory test and technical validation of packaging components (cartons, trays, films, outercase, pallets, etc); Support the brand with Packaging challenges in Sustainability (Less Plastic, Better Plastic and No Plastic agenda), innovation (new techs) and cost savings projects (5S agenda).


    MAIN INTERACTIONS

    • Research & Development of The Vegetarian Butcher team in Breda and Hive
    • The Vegetarian Butcher marketing team, Supply Chain, procurement and Portfolio & Innovation team members.
    • Sourcing Unit and 3 Party Manufacturers, as well as packaging supplier.
    • Food & Refreshment packaging community in Hive Wageningen.


    WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN A BUTCHER

    Technical Skills and Experience: the person working in this position would have:

    • Engineering degree (chemical, materials, packaging);
    • Minimum 3 years project management experience across different scopes and complexity levels (cost savings – 5S, innovation and quality issues);
    • Ability to manage different stakeholders – internal and external;
    • Working knowledge in packaging conversion techniques (trays, cartons and films), spec creations (AWS) and pallet patterns (design, validation and testing);
    • Working knowledge in laboratory analysis for packaging validations through different formats;
    • Knowledge/experience in the Foods portfolio and packaging regulations on this field (packaging and brands) is an advantage
