Support to technology development contracts and performance of in-house design work. In particular, assist in the establishment of requirements and configurations for payload equipment and sub-systems involving:
Solid state lasers.
Detectors and focal plane instrumentation.
Quantum-electronic devices and systems, including optical atomic clocks.
Superconducting devices and sensors.
Review and evaluation of technical documentation and design dossiers.
Perform analysis and elaborate outline design and configurations.
Assist, where appropriate, external and internal testing, verification and evaluation of opto-electronic systems and components, including ground and airborne measurement campaigns.
Contribute to the definition, maintenance and use of design, engineering and verification software tools for photonic systems and components.
Support Mission Studies/Projects from Phase 0 up to Phase B/C/D.
Propose/implement laser and Lidar technology development activities and relevant pre-development activities.
Evaluate technical proposals, maintain the Lidar Harmonisation dossier and coordinate inside the section the Lidar developments.
Supporting the operation, the test campaigns, the maintenance and the upgrades of the “ESA Mobile Raman Lidar” system of the Section.
Support the test campaigns of the “Laser Operation Verification Facility” of the Section.
Maintain link with Industrial & Scientific community in Lidar domain.
As per Job Class in Photonics or Optics, preferably at PhD level.
Back ground in atmospheric Lidars or laser altimetry and laser ranging applications.
Background in laser technologies and Lidar systems and instrumentation.
Experience with hardware design, performance aspects and characterization of space/airborne laser systems.
Experience with hardware design, performance aspects and characterization of lidars for airborne or space applications.
Knowledge of environmental testing of space hardware is an asset.
