    Operations Lead, Automation

    It’s an exciting time to join APM Terminals – we’re starting to execute on our 5-year strategy in the Modernization Program in order to modernize and upgrade of our current operations, improve safety and business results by rolling out market leading solutions for our operational equipment and processes. One part of the strategy is to deploy currently available mature products/solutions into our operating terminals globally. We are building the Mature Product Deployment Team which will concentrate on deploying 2 products: Terminal Gate Automation and Crane Operator Support (such as crane OCR, Truck Alignment…).
    Working together with this highly skilled deployment team, it is your mission to ensure everything goes according to plan and without local business disruption by aligning global, cross-functional product definitions with terminal specific conditions, and by coaching and guiding the team in effectively overcoming any challenges whilst implementing the product(s) in the live terminal operations.
    Base location is indicated as The Hague; however, the Mature Product Deployment team will be working on projects globally, moving from terminal to terminal to deploy these solutions, and the contractual base location can be flexible and discussed during the selection process.

    Key responsibilities

    The role of the Operations Lead (OL) is to lead product operational design development and implementation based on APM Terminalss operations design standards as well as developing and deploying product specific operational processes. The OL will
    play an integral role throughout all parts of the product deployment: from the planning phase to the execution of optimizing key value drivers. Additionally, the OL will contribute towards designing new operational processes required while
    maintaining and improving existing operational processes and standards.

    In this role, you will take be end to end ownership of all Operations related aspects of the product deployment:
    • Contribute to the development of Automation deployment specific functional requirements and guidelines for modernization and technical solutions based on the operational design and operational setup.
    • Drive operations integration testing from an execution perspective to minimize disruptions during live operations and support the achievement of the expected productivity.
    • Contribute towards shaping the future operations organization by bringing the organization to the expected maturity level.
    • Ensure health, safety, security, and environmental working conditions are included in the realization of any detailed product deployment design and engineering solution.
    • Build working relations with automation/equipment/civil/IT consultants, contractors, and suppliers to influence the good outcome of deploying Automation product ready for operations.
    • Conduct operational design analysis on components to ensure designs are operationally effective and cost efficient.
    • Own, monitor and optimize existing operational processes and driving strategic initiatives to help meet the business objectives.
    • Alignment with other Automation product teams, APM Terminals global functions, and other functional experts to coordinate operational design and assure incorporation of best operating practices.


    We are looking for

    For this role, we are looking for candidates with container terminal operations background, experience and knowledge of Automated container terminal operations will be a great advantage.
    Role will require an extensive knowledge of modern terminal operating systems and technology development, as well as experience with process improvement techniques in operations and other areas of the business. You need to have team management experience and be great at working with diverse teams in different countries and cultures. Be well organized, with good analytical skills and have eye for details.

    Furthermore, you have a can-do mentality, versatile resource management and planning skills and you are strong in setting your priorities, being able to balance short term deliverables and long-term business objectives.
