The Scientist will join the Neurodegeneration Discovery in vivo team and collaborate in the development of novel disease modifying therapies and research models for CNS disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
As a multidisciplinary team, we perform high quality in vivo studies in rodents in line with the larger project requirements, using established and novel technologies, including neurophysiological and neurochemical evaluations as well as behavioral and histological analysis in (transgenic) animal models. In addition, our new colleague will independently do in-depth analyses and interpretations of the experimental data and records and will report outcomes accurately and timely to the group and project team leads. The candidate will be instrumental in the identification, implementation and validation of novel research models and technologies.
The candidate needs to have considerable experience in working with small laboratory animals, in sophisticated surgical techniques, in (neurophysiological and behavioral) data collection and analysis, and in scientific writing.
Works as part of a team in a pharmaceutical laboratory setting as well as contributes individually to meet project timeline and objectives.
Designs and conducts ethically sound in vivo experiments to support discovery and development programs.
Conducts sophisticated data analysis and summarizes outcomes with data interpretation. Ensures that records and data are accurately retained, using data integrity software and Electronic Lab Notebook
Provides scientific support to biological technology and product development.
Reviews scientific and technical summaries and provides recommendations for business applications.
Prepares technical reports, manuscripts, and other scientific documents.
Performs literature reviews and presents data at internal and external meetings
Doctorate (PHD) or Equivalent in biomedical sciences or related area.
Minimal FELASA-B certification or foreign equivalent is required.
Experience and Skills
A shown background in neuroscience and in scientific advances is required.
Hands-on experience with neurophysiological techniques and handling of laboratory animals is essential.
Proven creativity and flexibility to novel approaches for solving technical or scientific problems and a natural drive to learn fast with intellectual curiosity.
Ability to effectively record, evaluate and report scientific data and concepts with flawless record-keeping skills according to established procedures.
Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and shown ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, highly matrixed environment is essential.
Engaged team worker with a strong dedication to lab work, while experience in an industrial research environment is a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data analysis packages is required, experience with LabVIEW and/or MATLAB is a recommendation.
Good oral and written communication skills, including preparation of presentations, with the ability to interact effectively with people and to put the goals of the larger team first, are required.
