Nanofabrication Engineer Quantum Team
Microsoft Quantum has assembled a talented and diverse international team to create the world’s first scalable quantum computing system. Microsoft’s verticalized approach involves exciting innovations at every level, from the qubit device and quantum information plane to the quantum-classical interface and classical compute system, all the way up to the system software, applications and global services. Microsoft Quantum will change the world of computing and help solve some of humankind’s currently unsolvable problems.
Microsoft Quantum has established Microsoft Quantum Labs across the globe, with locations in Europe, Australia, and the US. The sites are key to the Quantum program, with responsibilities distributed across them.
These sites are in unique working environments, at the focal point of a powerful collaboration between industry and academia. Specifically, in our location in Delft we are seeking a Nanofabrication engineer/materials scientist with experience in hands-on III-V frontend wafer processing.
The candidate will report into the global fabrication lead and works closely with his/her counterparts in the local fabrication team. The candidate should be willing to travel 10% of the time (After Covid-19).
Define and execute routine wafer nano fabrication to support epitaxial growth activities.
Develop high-yield, reproducible nano-patterning recipes for wafer preparation and advanced engineering processes. This includes wet chemistry, e.g., acid handling.
Prepare CAD drawings and schematics for mask designs as needed.
Monitor, control, and qualify the developed processes.
Coordinate with materials growers, device designers, cleanroom staff for an effective wafer fabrication / MBE loop.
Communicate with external suppliers of wafers. Order and catalog wafer stock.
Transfer knowledge and recipes transfer to internal and external partners
Integrate all fabrication data and defined metrics/procedures into program-wide database as well as provide summary reports to the epitaxial team and fabrication, characterization, measurements teams for newly developed devices.
Work in teams or independently as required.
Undertake risk assessment and hazard analysis.
PhD degree (or equivalent) with >2 years of experience in III-V Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Nanotechnology or related disciplines.
Hands-on experience (>2 years) with E-beam (optical is a plus) lithography, clean room processing with an emphasis on thin films (< 10nm) deposition and dry/wet chemical etching.
Specific experience with Processing and application of HSQ resist.
Hands-on experience (>5 years) with various deposition techniques such as PECVD, ALD, evaporation, as well as some metrology tools such as Optical Microscopy, AFM, SEM, profilometry, ellipsometry, etc.
Experience with III-V nanowires processing is a must.
Excellent teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills
Interested in solving technical problems that require collaboration with differently skilled technicians/engineers. Use of critical thinking to solve complex problems.
Efficient, timely, and precise
Fluent in written & oral English
The ideal candidate additionally has:
A strong physics and semiconductor background
MICROSOFT BACKGROUND CHECK:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
