    Medior researcher/modeller for energy markets and systems

    What will be your role?

    Are you challenged by the technological, economic and social changes of the energy transition? Do you wish to make an important contribution to research and advice on energy infrastructure?

    You’ll work on projects in the Energy Transition unit and the Energy Transition Studies expertise group of TNO. This expertise group develops techno-economic, socio-economic and social science knowledge, methods and tools that government agencies, companies and organisations can use to innovate within the energy transition. In this group, you’ll work in different teams depending on the subject of your project.

    The Energy Transition Studies expertise group is looking for an experienced researcher/modeller of energy systems in general and of EU energy markets (gas, electricity) in particular. As a researcher/modeller of energy markets and systems:
    • You develop techno-economic models of EU energy markets and systems, including setting up and running model scenarios, collecting and updating the required databases, and analysing, reporting and publishing the model results;
    • You conduct scientific research into the changes in energy markets and systems that are necessary for the transition to a sustainable, climate-neutral energy system;
    • You advise policymakers at national, international and regional level, energy companies and other stakeholders who are bringing about the energy transition;
    • You prepare project proposals for national and international research programmes and consultancy assignments for ministries, provincial authorities, grid operators and other parties in the energy market; and
    • You disseminate the accumulated knowledge to policymakers and stakeholders in the energy sector.

    How do you want to contribute to tomorrow's world? How big can your impact be? Come and work at TNO and envision it.

    What we expect from you

    We are looking for a scientist with the following background:
    • You have an academic qualification (preferably a PhD) in engineering, natural sciences or economics;
    • You have more than five years of experience in modelling energy markets and systems, as demonstrated by a dissertation or similar scientific publications in this field;
    • You are able to write project proposals and get them accepted and you can demonstrate this;
    • You are communicative and have experience in managing stakeholder processes;
    • You have a network within the field of activity and can maintain and expand it;
    • You are able to work both with others and independently and you are innovative and proactive; and
