Unilode Aviation Solutions provides global specialist services for the aviation industry, including management, leasing and digital solutions for Unit Load Devices (ULDs), and maintenance and repair (MRO) services for ULDs and galley carts. We are looking for a Manager Global ULD Ground Services who will build an effective community amongst all parties involved with ‘on the ground’ pooling operations, and facilitate the day to day supply of ULD to all Unilode customers, whilst safeguarding the assets and driving operational improvements. The role will be a Unilode ambassador on the airport and create relationships with airlines, GHAs and the local airport authority that enforce ongoing ULD management best practice.
This role will have direct operational responsibility for Amsterdam airport and other key airports in the Benelux region and will also act as a leader of the Unilode Ground Services domain and support the global expansion of this function.
The position is based in Schiphol, the Netherlands.
The Manager Global ULD Ground Services`s key responsibilities include, but is not limited to:
Expand and lead ULD Ground Services domain globally (incl. solid and dotted line leadership)
Establish global standards and KPIs around ULD Ground Services and implement standard way of reporting performance a key airports
Act as subject matter expert for ULD handling
Establish collaborative, results driven performance management process
Coach team members and support their professional and personal development
Establish global relationships with Ground Handlers and other key stakeholders in the “on the ground” ULD supply chain in the name of Unilode
Support implementation of new ULD Management customers
Operational responsibility in Amsterdam/Benelux:
Support local coordination of disposition requests (i.e. GHA transfers, disposition request follow-ups, etc)
Conduct airport sweeps and regular stock takes
Follow-up with GHAs on ULD stock discrepancies/error messages and ULD messages not adhering to IATA and Unilode messaging standards
Follow-up with GHAs on ULD misuse
Collect evidence of lost and damaged equipment, identify root causes and share insights with Customer Success Manager and local Customer representatives to formulate solutions
Ensure units are being marked as unserviceable in line with the ODLN
Liaise with the local MRO to optimize the collection, and return of equipment requiring repair
Asset safeguarding: Ensure ULDs are correctly handled and stored on airport, e.g. right locations, safe, etc)
Support execution of network rebalancing (coordinate inter-GHA transfers, arrange trucking, facilitate courtesy moves on OAL, etc)
Coordinate leased and interline ULD extraction
Support/ maintain local airport reader infrastructure of our digital ULD track & trace platform
Check-in with local customer representatives to discuss operational topics
Conduct training and awareness sessions for GHA staff on ULD messaging, ULD handling, damage reporting and overall pooling operations
Participate in local airport operations meetings organized by airport authorities/ GHAs, drive the Unilode customer and operations agenda in these meetings
Conduct weekly reporting and analysis on local airport/ground operations, root cause analysis and drive improvements based on structured action plan
Who are we looking for?
At least 10 years in the aviation industry, of which a minimum of 5 years in Airport Operations/ Ground Handling
At least 3 years of team leadership experience (direct reporting line)
Relevant experience within ULD Management and/or Air Cargo
Proven ability to develop and maintain strong customer relationships
Proven ability to work independently with limited supervision
In depth knowledge of on airport/GHA and Air Cargo working practices
Detailed knowledge about ULD messaging process, different messaging types and IATA standards
Detailed knowledge about ULD ODLN / CMM damage allowances
Ability to analyse data, identify key insights, structure and solve problems, prioritize and drive actions
Ability to lead, motivate and performance manage people
Ability to work in cross-functional teams
Demonstrable experience in building and maintaining relationships, including with Senior Management.
Self-motivated with strong sense of ownership
Ability to deal with resistance and creativity in addressing problems
Passion for customer service, including dispute resolution.
Excellent communication skills including written and oral in English, Dutch (other languages such as German, French, Spanish or Mandarin are an advantage)
Experience with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) required
Travel (domestic and international) may be required
Some weekend and evening coverage may be required from time to time
