In this highly visible role, you’ll deliver the legal strategy and provide expert, accurate and cost effective legal advice
Your knowledge of general banking law and practice will be invaluable, together with your experience in Dutch / EU regulatory matters and the wider global financial services industry

What you'll do
We’re looking for an experienced Legal Counsel to manage and coordinate the delivery of legal advice, supporting an area of our business. You’ll work closely with stakeholders and legal colleagues to ensure the timely, effective and efficient delivery of all issues, projects and initiatives, either directly or through a team.
Alongside this, you’ll be helping senior management to build, manage and lead a team to attain high performance standards, with a focus on development opportunities and proactive succession planning.
Additionally, you’ll be:
Making sure that legal advice is readily understandable to non-lawyers, delivered within relevant timescales, and manages and minimises legal risks
Driving continuous improvement in operating practices and processes, including identifying efficiencies, improvements and opportunities to reduce costs
Managing and delivering the communication of internal and external legal advice and providing input on transactions and projects to stakeholders
Overseeing legal costs through the use of e-billing, auctions and other cost tools and driving a culture of disciplined cost management and controls
The skills you'll need
To join us in this role, you’ll be a lawyer, qualified in the Netherlands, with good regulatory experience, and strong knowledge of Dutch and EU financial markets regulation and general banking law and practice, as well as the wider global financial services industry. You’ll have a track record of stakeholder management, along with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues up to senior executive level and with external professional contacts.
You’ll also need:
To speak, write and read fluently in English. Dutch language skills would be an advantage.
The ability to recognise issues of strategic, legal or reputational importance and evaluate and direct how they should be addressed and resolved
An understanding of legal and regulatory environment and issues
Strong leadership skills and experience of organising, leading and motivating professional teams
The ability to keep up to date with and share relevant legal and market developments and communicate these to colleagues
