    After Covestro’s successful acquisition of Resins & Functional Materials business from DSM, we are now offering job vacancies in this department. This position is located The Netherlands.
    This job position will be in the Powder Coating Resins group which is part of the CA business entity within Covestro

    Purpose of the job

    • Conduct laboratory experiments and standard analyses using best practices and respecting Covestro HSE requirements

    • To prepare appropriate reporting of results and propose conclusions and follow-up activities

    • Take responsibilities on certain lab equipment to make sure they are functioning well

    Job content

    • Conduct laboratory experiments and standard analyses according to the guidelines from the plan/recipe provided by and/or discussed with the content responsible people (scientist, project/science manager) in order to efficiently develop and produce binders or concepts

    • Conduct experiments according to best practices, register observations and results in lab notebooks. Discuss experiments and adjust and test according to the guidelines of the supervisor until the desired result is achieved

    • Make efficient use of available literature, documentation, reports and recipes, and monitor development in the technical area through literature, study and courses

    • Testing and/or analyzing new or adjusted products according to procedures on physical and chemical properties, using available instruments and methods. Compare values to specifications and report results in notebooks and discuss results with direct supervisor

    • Investigate new raw materials, or raw materials from alternative suppliers, with respect to the influence on properties of new or existing products, by comparing the results to the specifications or references. Report observations and results in (electronic) note book

    • Conduct necessary calculations for experiments and analyses

    • Comply fully to responsibilities and authorities as described in SHE and Quality TAA relevant to the position:

    • Take responsibility for own SHE behavior

    • Work according to the R&D department policy and SHE requirements as described in the SHE (departmental) handbooks

    • Report and communicate all SHE related issues - Commit and contribute to maintaining housekeeping standards - Participate in SHE-training and SHE-Refresher training sessions - Personal responsibility and commitment to the requirements of the continuous improvement process

    • Keeping laboratory equipment and other utilities in a good condition. Keep track and refill stock of chemicals necessary for experiments

    • Participate in multidisciplinary project teams and departmental discussions

    • May maintain and operate specialized laboratory and/or analytical equipment

    • May perform specific analyses to support R&D (hands-on analyses)

    • May maintain and supervise storage area of samples and/or chemicals

    • May fulfill the role of lab steward


    • Vocational training in chemistry (“Chemielaborant”) or equivalent, work experience in a laboratory

    • Knowledge of common laboratory procedures and skill and, mechanical aptitude in handling laboratory equipment as well as, modifying/adapting laboratory equipment for specific development, programs

    • Ability to multi-task while working independently with occasional, supervision

    • Ability to analyze, review and summarize data in an effective, manner

    • Ability to work in a team environment with a group of diverse, individuals

    • Basic computer (e.g. MS Office and lab-specific software) skills

    • Good technical and interpersonal communication skills

    • Ability to maintain a safe work environment and follow safe work, practices (e.g. with chemicals)
