    Do you want to make a valuable contribution to educating students of our Master programme Software Engineering? Do you want to be part of a team that runs one of the best-rated ICT Master programmes in the Netherlands (according to NSE)? Share your software engineering talent with our students. At the same time boost your own knowledge of software engineering on an academic level and benefit from our vast network of industrial partners.

    What are you going to do

    As a junior lecturer you are the face of the programme working with the students from their first steps to their final thesis defense. You support the course coordinators in the organisation and supervision of work groups and labs. You grade assignments and give valuable feedback to students. You (help to) organise plenary events such as the Thesis Fair, the Graduation Project Kick-off or the Mid-term Presentations. With growing experience we expect you to coach students through their graduation projects, predominantly in collaboration with industry. You will further assist the programme director on the daily management of programme-level affairs.

    In addition to your teaching activities, you are encouraged to spend 0,1 FTE of your time on personal and professional development. For instance, if you wish to pursue setting up your own research projects for students or scientific publications and related activities, we are happy to support you in any way that we can.

    What do we require

    As a junior lecturer in Software Engineering you have:

    • a MSc degree (or even a PhD) in software engineering, computer science or a closely related discipline;
    • practical software engineering experience, preferably in an industrial context;
    • prior teaching experience, e.g. as a student assistant;
    • good didactical and organisational skills;
    • an excellent command of English (C1); Non-native Dutch speakers must be willing to obtain B2 level proficiency in the Dutch Language;
    • a proactive and flexible attitude;
    • the ability to work independently as well as in a team.

    Our offer

    The Faculty of Science offers you a temporary contract of four years (with a 2 month probation period) for 38 hours per week which includes 0.1 FTE dedicated to training and development. The salary, depending on relevant work experience before the beginning of the employment contract, will be €2,836 to €4,474 (scale 10) gross per month, based on a fulltime contract (38 hours a week). This is exclusive 8 % holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. A favourable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.

    This combination of working as a lecturer while following training is called the Lecturer Development Program (Docent Ontwikkel Programma, DOP). The purpose of the DOP is to optimise your position on the job market (employability and career opportunities) once your temporary employment comes to an end. During the course of your four-year contract, you will follow training modules together with other junior lecturers; this will include the opportunity to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). Together with your supervisor, you will draw up a Personal Development Plan (Persoonlijk Ontwikkelplan, POP) detailing the specifics of your customised program.
