Coffee & Tea Sourcing is based in Utrecht (the Netherlands) and is the department tasked with sourcing green coffee and tea as well as ensuring timely delivery of these raw materials to our factories worldwide. The C&T Sourcing function ensures the integration of key business processes from supplier to factories, providing products, services and information that add value for our stakeholders. The function manages sourcing and buying, supply chain (warehousing/logistics) and planning processes to ensure optimal alignment between demand and supply on a global scale, taking into account efficiency, required flexibility, and security of supply while considering costs, working capital, quality levels, service levels, and company and society values.
As a Global Tea & Tisane Operations Expert you will be a contributing member of the Coffee & Tea Sourcing Tea Team and reports to the Global Tea & Tisane Operations Manager who reports to The Global Coffee & Tea Sourcing Director who in turn reports directly to the Vice-President R&D and Operations and the C&TS team is the central point of expertise for all matters related to Green Coffee, Tea and Tisane.
The Global Tea & Tisane Operations Expert role is to support timely and effective execution of all activities that support Global footprint of the category managing physical Tea (Camellia Sinensis) and Tisane (Rooibos and other ~120 different botanicals) sourcing strategies valued at approx. 25 Mio Euro annually (Tea, Tisanes and Green leaf), which adhere to corporate policies and contribute to global sourcing objectives.
The role also requires very close cooperation with various arms of the business giving operational guidance. The execution happens locally after guidance are given at Global level for multiple OpCo.(Brew group, Super group, Ofcay, Tea Forte).
Through the strategic allocation of business, this role is responsible for the development and maintenance of key supplier relationship required to fulfil JDE raw material (Tea and Tisane) requirements now and in the future.
In collaboration with The Global Tea & Tisane Operations Manager, this role is required to develop operational improvement and staff development plans to support the stability of the team and its contributions to the business.
As a subject matter expert in raw material with in the tea and botanical industry, the role provides guidance, insight and education to partner functions such as Category Marketing, Operations, manufacturing and R&D.
The Global Tea & Tisane Operations Expert has a coordinative role between internal and external stakeholders and has a proactive & creative mindset in order to avoid or solve disruptions in the supply chain. The expert is a service provider to the business.
Your key responsibilities will be:
Identifying and capitalizing on opportunities to improve the organization’s buying patterns and supply channels.
Developing a Purpose Led, Value Driven and Future Fit Procurement Strategy for Tea & Tisane Business in line with the overall Business strategy.
Executing procurement strategies based on market intelligence (gathered through conducting supply and demand analysis) and required volumes from materials planners.
Monitoring changing trends in price and availability of Tea and Tisanes and understanding the complexity of the market (fundamentals and technical) and ensuring proper reporting on financial performance and risks to internal stakeholders.
Monitoring supplier performance on set KPIs and Quality level.
Coordinating role with suppliers & internal logistics team with focus on stable and continuous flow of Tea & Tisane with limited working inventories.
Becoming subject matter expert within the organization.
Linking cross functional teams (R&D, Marketing, Manufacturing, Supply chain,) to provide best value for business.
Ensuring legal compliance on Food safety for all purchases, closely coordinating with internal stake holders.
Ensuring compliance to internal policies & procedures and having a deep understanding of and manages compliance to the Combined Business Model
Researching & analyzing data, identifying opportunities to create business value for mid-term/ long - term and giving presentations

Supporting Global Tea & Tisane Operations Manager in identifying long term opportunities in creating road map for the function.

For this role as a Global Tea & Tissane Buyer, we’re looking for someone who has the following skills and experience:
Minimum Bachelor Degree in Business / Finance or related area. (Master Degree in operations or Supply Chain will be a plus.)
Minimum 7 - 10 years of tea industry experience and at least 10 years of relevant experience in procurement.
Deep knowledge of Tea and Tisane origins, grades, qualities, business models and industry operations.
Advanced MS Office Suite skills with heavy weighting on Excel and PowerPoint
To be cross-functional team player with a hands-on mentality who is also able to take ownership and also work independently
Experience of working in a cross-boundary/multi-cultural environment
To be accurate, analytical, flexible, pro-active, entrepreneurial, perseverant
English is the official language of the company, English written and verbal communication skills is a must
To be open to travel to Tea growing origins.
