Recently, Unilever decided to separate the Tea business to ensure it can best achieve its potential. Unilever is currently reviewing several options for separation, including a demerger, an initial public offering, a disposal or through partnership models. The Tea businesses in India and Indonesia, and the partnership interests in the ready-to-drink Tea joint ventures will be retained.

    Your Role:

    As Global Media Relations communications manager your role is to define and execute on the reputation and thought leadership external communications strategy that helps best position the Tea Division as the global market leader of the tea category. Spokesmanship, a proactive media relations strategy and issues management would be part of your responsibilities.


    Another aspect of your role is to actively position the CEO and other leadership team members as inspirational leaders that drive the development of the category and the company in key areas. These areas include sustainability and health & wellbeing.


    The role will have an external facing remit: media relations, social media and issues management.

    We are looking for someone with high energy and strong bias for action, bringing with him or her a strong network of international relations with key media, maximinzing the earned opportunities of the Tea brands’ campaigns. The ideal candidate must have proven experience in external communication and media relations, independent thinking, strong judgement, outstanding writing skills, and ability to proactively manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Strong digital skills are required.


    Your
    Key Tasks:

    • You will be responsible for developing and implementing the external communications strategy to position the Tea Division as global market leader in the tea category.

    • You drive the communications planning integrating internal and external messaging, and bringing the Tea Division’s brand PR, sustainability communications and seasonal campaigns to life.

    • Responsible for organization of events and communications supporting the organization’s overall objectives and financial reporting.

    • Position senior leaders with key media and external stakeholders and brief them for media interaction.

    • Crafting and proactive pitching of stories to (social) media in key media, incl. Newswires, financial media and news media.

    • You would act as a spokesperson for the Tea Division, in close collaboration with The Chief Communications Officer.

    • Providing advice to relevant brands on (social) media handling for issues management

    • Media monitoring and identification of new media leads.


    Key Interfaces
    and relevant stakeholders for this role:

    • Reporting line to the Chief Communications Officer

    • Interacting with Senior Executives

    • Member of the global (corporate) communications team, interacting closely with your colleagues on External Affairs, Internal Comms & Sustainability Engagement, Digital & Social)

    Required Experiences:

    • A minimum of 10 years of rounded communications experience;

    • Delivery in a fast-paced environment

    • Track record of managing both corporate and brand-specific issues

    • Effective juggling of multiple deliverables simultaneously

    • Experience of working at a senior Communications level in an international, global complex organization, preferably with a focus on FMCG.

    • Track record of delivering innovative and effective approaches to external communications, preferably including financial communications.

    • Experience of managing third party providers, including agencies.

    • Good understanding of working in a multicultural environment and the ability to demonstrate a dedication to the promotion of fairness and equality.

    Required Skills:

    • Fluent in English

    • Strong network with international & financial media in place

    • Confidence, drive and initiative

    • Keen interest in the news and seeking innovative opportunities to leverage publicity for the Tea brands.

    • Proven networking abilities, and experienced at managing a wide range of stakeholders

    • Initiative to deliver excellent storytelling (with outstanding written skills)

    • Excellent bias for action, shows accountability and responsibility and has a ‘can do’ attitude

    • Strong digital skills

    • Highly organised and able to handle multiple tasks at once, as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
