The value outcome from this role will be to drive
1. Plan Food & Refreshment (F&R) Innovation Agenda in line with the F&R Strategy and improve in-market success of innovations (including renovations of the Core) through
Give guidance on systemic/ pan F&R view on where and how much to innovate, based on the strategy and in-market innovation rate analysis
Optimize biz case realization for renovations and innovations through cultural change and competency across categories
Develop systemic approach for F&R ecosystem (including external parties) that can be a new revenue/ value creation stream for UL
Accelerate the amplification of innovations that work, to enable fewer bigger better innovations
A keen eye on incrementality in every innovation we focus on
2. Close partnering of the Global Transformation and Strategy Lead for Foods to drive overall Foods NPD and core Innovation agenda
3. Business partner Foods Global NPD teams (~3) for incremental growth through consumer- and trade-centric innovations
We are responsible for driving innovation GROWTH for Unilever Foods and Ice Cream (also known as F&R), not just about generating and testing new ideas. We will get there through rapid build/ measure/ learn loops as well as best-in-class research approach and implementation of cheaper and more agile research tools without sacrificing the required rigour. This is also achieved through a thorough understanding of what makes innovations work in-market, so we can scale up the success or pivot the mix while in-market.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead a team of innovation insight specialists across geographies to drive the F&R Innovation Agenda and growth
Ruthless simplification of all systemic processes and standardising & automating research methods.
Lead meta learnings, cross-pollination, innovation monitoring and real time management of innovation projects.
Lead different innovation research projects from ideation/co-creation workshops to final testing of the full mix, using a differentiated pathway of methodologies depending on innovation type and risk to Unilever.
Identify & integrate consumer insights into various innovation projects. This will include funnel innovations & renovations on Core and NPD.
Be responsible for building and developing relationships with the global-wide Innovation team across divisions, and across key business partners including CMI (consumer market insights), CTI (consumer technical insights), Marketing, R&D and Finance.
What you’ll need to succeed
You need to demonstrate strong personal mastery and agility as you will be required to partner senior brand and category leadership teams in a matrix organisation. You should have a founder’s mindset with business acumen and passion for high performance to drive provocations with senior leaders, peers, and people you lead to transform the culture of innovation to unlock more synergies, reduce complexities, and drive true incremental growth.
You should be connected externally with the latest innovation thought leadership, competitive moves, innovation ideas and trends.
As an innovation insights leader across the F&R division, it is critical that you are a Talent Catalyst, building a team of connected and empowered innovation insight managers/ assistant managers who can support you in driving the culture and systemic change in Unilever.
You have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in Marketing and/ or in Market Research
Working experience preferably in FMCG or similar industry
Relevant experience in Innovation research
Relevant experience and proficiency in quantitative and qualitative primary research methods and analytic approaches, (syndicated data, quantitative and qualitative research, application of social listening tools) with communication insight research and /or media insights
Demonstrable successful experiences in Lean Innovation and Growth Hacking
Team leadership, especially with remote direct reports
Personal passion for Innovations & Trends & innovation ecosystems
Strong project management skills
Good analytical thinking and communication skills to present clearly, simplify complex topics and influence decision-making
Strong communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to prioritise and deliver pipeline of innovations across brands and workstreams
Comfortable working with data (analysis, synthesis, and interpretation)
Comfortable working independently and as part of a virtual and global team
Resourceful and able to upskill yourself on new tools and systems through online learning and support from agency partners
A team player; accountable, open minded who likes to work in rapid and agile way
