    Unilever is proud of its Tea business, the biggest in the world, with world class purpose driven brands such as Lipton, PG tips and Pukka. Recently, Unilever decided to separate the Tea business to ensure it can best achieve its potential. Unilever is currently reviewing several options for separation, including a demerger, an initial public offering, a disposal or through partnership models. The Tea businesses in India and Indonesia, and the partnership interests in the ready-to-drink Tea joint ventures will be retained.

    Your Role:

    As Global External Affairs manager you are part of the global communications team and reporting into the Chief Communications Officer. It is your role to promote the Tea company advancing its financial sustainability by managing the relations with key stakeholders (e.g. governmental, category specific partners, financial) and make appropriately use of them in positioning the Tea company as the global market leader with a keen interest in growing a world of wellbeing.


    With a dotted line to the Chief Legal Officer, you will be tasked to act as a government liaison, working with the Tea leadership team to develop the organization’s legislative priorities and monitoring current legislation and government regulations and create actionable plans to counter or advance them to the benefit of the Tea Company and its vision.


    Part of your role will be investor relations….


    To devise, implement and evaluate communications strategies and policy contacts around Tea, our brands, our mission and relevant issues, and identify, develop and refine key messages in alignment with your colleagues. In support of this you monitor speaking opportunities and platforms for our spokespeople.


    The role will have an external facing remit: investor relations, issues management and regulations.

    We are looking for someone with high energy and strong bias for action, bringing with him or her a strong network of international relations with governmental bodies, preferably already in relation to Tea.


    Your
    Key Tasks:

    • You will be responsible for maintaining favorable public perceptions of the Tea Company by creating positive public awareness, understanding and support for Tea’s plans and initiatives, and effectively managing the organization’s reputation and political impact.

    • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with multiple stakeholder groups (e.g. government officials, government staff and community); navigate complex issues and find common ground when differing, and sometimes opposing, perspectives arise.

    • Develop and implement strategic communications and public affairs programs that advance Tea’s mission, vision and business objectives.

    • With Media relations, you are responsible for the organization of events and communications supporting the organization’s overall objectives and financial reporting.

    • Direct, lead, and review the preparation of information packs as necessary, reports and presentations, news releases, brochures and other types of publications and collateral materials.

    • Direct and oversee consumer and public opinion research, or other necessary insights overviews to support communication and public affairs strategies.


    Key Interfaces
    and relevant stakeholders for this role:

    • Reporting line to the Chief Communications Officer

    • Dotted reporting line to the Chief Legal Officer

    • Interacting with Senior Executives, especially with the Chief Financial Officer and Chief R&D and Sustainability Officer.

    • Member of the global (corporate) communications team, interacting closely with your colleagues on Media Relations, Internal Comms & Sustainability Engagement, Digital & Social)

    Required Experiences:

    • A minimum of 10 years of rounded communications experience and bringing along relations with governmental bodies – preferably in relation to Tea.

    • Experience in working with media, public and/or government officials.

    • Effective juggling of multiple deliverables simultaneously

    • Experience of working at a senior Communications level in an international, global complex organization, preferably with a focus on FMCG.

    • Experience of managing third party providers, including agencies.

    • Good understanding of working in a multicultural environment and the ability to demonstrate a dedication to the promotion of fairness and equality.

    Required Skills:

    • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills

    • Confidence, drive and initiative

    • Proven networking abilities, and experienced at managing a wide range of stakeholders

    • Highly organised and able to handle multiple tasks at once, as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
