    Job Purpose

    Define, develop and improve RD&I Control capabilities within AkzoNobel to become a leading global RD&I function and to be an effective and trusted partner for the business.

    The focus of the RD&I Controller is on the development of reporting, KPIs, tools and processes that enable performance improvements and effectiveness of the RD&I function at reduced cost levels : improving ROI of the RD&I function.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Support the leadership team of the function as a business partner with the end to end responsibility for the functional performance.
    • Manage the forecasts and budget for the group, totaling approximately €220m per year.
    • Contribute from the financial and economic perspective to the strategic and tactical decision making of the function and the (KPI) reporting thereof to internal stakeholders.
    • Ensure that functional decisions are made in line with long term value creation objectives, within the function’s financial and other constraints (such as corporate policy, strategic and operational objectives, legal and social responsibility).
    • Manage the dedicated RD&I FP&A support to ensure timely and effective reporting for decision support.
    • Sponsor/support of global improvement of functional projects from financial perspective.
    • Lead development of global RD&I KPI framework that is tested for adequacy and rolled out for reporting globally.
    • Develop, promote and implement Finance standardization.
    • Play a pivotal role in the RDI functional Agenda.
    • Be the Financial “conscience” of the function.
    Key Activities

    • The accurate, timely and cost-effective management of all functional financials.
    • The establishment of the operational plans for the assigned financial discipline as well as the on-going monitoring of the effects of their implementation.
    • Drive gap closing actions to manage cost control and contingency in the function.
    • Partner with the technical director on portfolio prioritization & resource allocation to allow for the best choices in product development and level of technical service.
    • Finance business partner in the development of the RD&I organization.
    • Validate Capex business case and reporting.
    • Clarify incremental value of the innovation pipeline for the coming five years. Validation PGM business cases to maximize RD&I ROI.
    • Setting definitions around performance KPI’s, NPI, portfolio review.
    Experience & Qualifications

    • Fluency in English, verbal and written.
    • University degree in Economics or equivalent. MBA or chartered controller/accountant degree is a plus.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to operate in cross-functional teams 8+ years working experience, preferable in various financial functions or pillars.
    • Sound understanding of key systems (e.g. HFM, SAP, AX, Cognos,Focos,Gensight).
    • High integrity and committed to the AkzoNobel values.
    • Oversees the big picture, whilst also understanding the lower granularity.
    • Ability to structure and standardize high volumes of activities.
    • Team player, also in complex-matrix organizational set-up.
    • Results driven & Hands-on mentality.
    • Commercial sensitivity / affinity.
