What will your tasks include?
As an Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) policy adviser, you will have a challenging and varied role:
You will be responsible for developing EDI-related HR policy. This policy will be aimed at encouraging various different forms of diversity, including cultural diversity.
You will be a valued discussion partner on EDI themes, across the entire university and for the various faculties. These include themes such as cultural diversity, gender policy, inclusive recruitment & selection and EDI training. You will advise and encourage the faculties and fulfil a connecting role.
You will advise on EDI training for employees, managers and teams. You will also be the contact person for the training agencies and evaluate the training courses.
You will inform the EDI steering group (see more about this in the text) about the progress of policy development and activities in the area of EDI.
You will monitor and report on (gender) data and provide policy advice on this.
You will participate in EDI-related national and international networks and projects.
You will (co-)organise EDI-related activities and events, such as workshops or lectures.
You will contribute to the international collaboration programme CHARM EU. This programme focuses on educational innovation. Here, your focus will lie on the inclusiveness of the curricula to be developed.
What will you bring to the role?
You have extensive experience in the field of (cultural) diversity and inclusion, including in the area of advice and policy development.
You bring your own vision for EDI and know how to create support for your plans.
You have an academic level of work and thought. You are organisation-sensitive and familiar with working in a complex, administrative environment.
You are able to combine policy and operational tasks and feel comfortable in a project-based working environment.
You have experience in developing and rolling out EDI policy and playing a connecting role. You are good at collaboration and will serve as a sparring partner for the HR coordinators in the faculties and services.
You are able to formulate clear recommendations for the Executive Board, aimed at promoting (cultural) diversity and inclusion. You are able to translate these recommendations into a practical implementation.
You have plenty of initiative and perseverance.
You are able to communicate well in English and Dutch.
This is an appointment for a period of three years until 01/01/2025, the duration of the current EDI programme. The scope of the appointment will be 24-32 hours. The maximum salary is €5,211 gross per month for a full-time appointment. This is equal to scale 11 as specified in the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
Secondment is an option for internal candidates.

HR Development team
As the EDI Policy Adviser, you will work in the HR Development team, which forms part of the HR department. The HR Development team focuses on issues relating to leadership development, diversity and inclusion, internationalisation and professional development. HR Development collaborates with all faculties and services of Utrecht University. The same applies to you in your role. The team consists of nine project leaders and policy advisers with extensive experience in the fields mentioned. The team is managed by the head of HR Development. Our colleagues work together on the basis of openness, enthusiasm and proactivity. An atmosphere in which you can collaborate and bounce ideas off each other. There is scope to provide your own input and employees are also considerate of one another.
The EDI programme
Utrecht University has a four-year EDI strategy and action plan. In order to realise all its plans properly, an EDI Office has been set up. You will form an important part of this office. The EDI office is indispensable for the implementation of the strategy and action plan. The EDI Office supports the development of the diversity and inclusion policy, provides communication about EDI developments and organises activities and training. The EDI Office also facilitates the EDI Steering Committee. This steering committee encourages EDI initiatives within the university. The steering committee consists of representatives from various parts of the university. The steering committee is chaired by the university's Diversity Dean. The EDI Office is coordinated by a programme manager.
