    Engineering Manager - Web Core ML Personalisation

    In order to keep focusing on offering best in class customer experiences, personalisation is key to the augmented customer support and enhancing the booking experience. This requires the development of a personalisation engine, and the deep integration of this engine into a complex systems landscape, like the modularisation of the main web pages of The Product Foundations & Help Technologies department is bootstrapping a team specifically for this building, with an Engineering Manager being the leader of this team.


    The focus of this role is to manage, coach and develop an engineering team, ensuring the development of both the individuals and the team in line with organizational objectives. You should be a technically strong role model that can help your team advance and develop. The role requires analyzing technology and talent needs together with market demand. You will work closely with other leaders, key stakeholders and tech teams to determine feasibility, effectiveness, scalability and time-to-market for new and existing products.

    Important aspects of the job include:

    Technology, Craft & Delivery

    • Engineering delivery, quality and practices within your own team
    • Delivery of wider engineering strategic objectives
    • Embed agile ways of working and company values within the team
    • Get into the technical details (where required) and coach, support and mentor the team
    • Adhere to the default principles for architecture, quality and non-functional requirements
    • Contribute to the evolution of best practices across the department
    • Drive a culture of ownership and technical excellence, including reactive work such as incident escalations
    • Learn new technologies and keep abreast of existing technologies to be able to share learnings and apply these to a variety of projects when needed

    Architecture & Product Strategy

    • Define, shape and deliver the roadmap
    • Build new products, processes and operational plans
    • Negotiate on the strategic importance of own product roadmap features
    • Drive innovation in the team
    • Own the architecture across the team

    People Leadership

    • Inspire and motivate a cross functional team
    • Lead by example by taking ownership, being proactive and collaborating
    • Nurture, grow and develop engineering talent in the team
    • Foster a great culture that innovates, work together as a team, partner with other com teams and roles and celebrates unified success
    • Embody the values and use them as a guide to the way the team works


    • 5+ years of experience in software development
    • At least 3 years of experience leading and managing a team of engineers in a fast-paced and complex environment
    • You have driven successful technical, business and people related initiatives that improved productivity, performance and quality
    • A deep understanding of software development in a team, and a track record of developing and shipping software
    • Experience in designing and architecting systems and APIs
    • Experience in defining and upholding SLOs/KPIs and conducting architecture reviews for systems
    • Experience in working on products with a large customer base and company wide impact
    • Strong technical skills (Coding & System design) with ability to get hands-on with your team when needed
    • You are a humble and thoughtful technology leader, you lead by example and gain your teammates’ respect through actions
    • Strong people management skills and experience in dealing with complex people issues
    • Excellent communicator with strong stakeholder management experience, good commercial awareness and technical vision
    • Analytical skills and data-driven mindset
    • Hands-on experience with Kafka, Cassandra and/ or MySQL is a plus
