The Beam & Optics group is one of the pillars of TEM Solutions, the Research and Development organization for Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM). This group is committed to develop cutting edge technologies, modules and software that enable us to deliver world class TEM microscopes for our demanding markets and customers. With the ongoing developments in physics and industry the requirements for optical performance of these TEM microscopes are continuously growing. Aligning well with Advanced Technology Development and several selected collaboration-partners this group is striving to convert the most promising technological concepts into real products for creating and guiding electron beams for imaging with near-perfect optical performance. The increasing demand for developing specific electron optical solutions has opened a challenging position for a talented Electron-Optical Designer with experience in physics in general, and with Electron Optics in particular. In this position, you will collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team to develop new modules to extend our roadmap and product portfolio in transmission electron microscopy. We rely on you to bring along active experience (hands-on) with Transmission Electron Microscopy to support the development and validation of new Electron-Optical modules. This includes working with a team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers, as well as with Manufacturing and Service departments to support the introduction of the newly developed module into production. As Electron Optics Designer and System Engineer you will be part of an enthusiastic team of scientists, engineers and software developers.
The position reports directly into the manager of the sub-team Science and Systems Engineering within the Beam and Optics group who will assist you in your personal development, while the project priorities and planning will be coordinated mainly by the project manager.

Earlier experience in a similar development environment is a plus. The following expectations of education and experience are key elements for a successful candidate:
University degree in physics or proven mastering of knowledge and skills on this level, combined with the attitude to continue to learn and (self-) educate on electron optical physics.
Ability to operate TEM microscopes and aligning the beam for optimal performance is a key element and as such an important qualifier for this position.
Experience in Electron Optical design is strongly preferred.
A hands-on attitude towards building components and test set-ups is highly preferred.
Data analysis skills are strongly preferred.
Experience in programming or in scripting experiments is a plus for this position.
The ability and willingness for occasional visits to e.g. customers is important in this role to contribute in assuring the quality of new developed products as well as to learn and understand their experiences and expectations that you can bring back as important input for improvements and new developments.
