    Director, Vaccines Technology & Innovation

    Janssen Supply Chain (JSC) Technical Operations is recruiting for a Director, Vaccines Technology & Innovation. We are open to consider the role to be based at any of our JSC sites, with strong preference for the following countries: Leiden, The Netherlands. Alternative JSC sites will be considered, including Cork (Ireland), Schaffhausen (Switzerland), Titusville, NJ, Malvern (PA) etc.

    The Technical Operations Director, Vaccines Technology & Innovation, is responsible for providing leadership as well as strategic and tactical direction to the JSC Vaccines Technology Strategy and Innovation in alignment with the JSC Strategy goals and its Key Stakeholders. Is accountable for the appropriate allocation of resources, project prioritization and realization as per the platform goals.


    Principal Responsibilities:

    • Defines and owns the Vaccines Technology & Innovation Strategy
    • Partners with R&D on manufacturing strategy and new development platforms in the Vaccines manufacturing area
    • Develops and deploys technology standards and its applications through internal & external manufacturing sites, assets and products (Roadmap, Scouting & Evaluation, Prioritization)
    • Contributes to business planning strategies in partnership with Manufacturing Leadership and translates business goals into Technical Operations objectives.
    • Contributes to technical and digital process assessments related to network reconfiguration, major cost improvement programs, front end project loading of new capabilities and capacity
    • Provides expertise to global New Product Introduction (NPI) for Vaccines through E2E Technical Product Sourcing Evaluations
    • Approves and monitors the Technical Operations Technology & Innovation budget
    • Develop relationships with key stakeholders: i.e. JSC Make partners, R&D, Quality, Value Chain Management, …

    The Director, Vaccines Technology & Innovation will have the following skills:

    • Strong theoretical and practical expertise in vaccines dosage forms and or large molecule products, focused on engineering, new product development, biotechnology manufacturing processes, materials aspects (raw materials and primary containers) and packaging
    • Facility and Utilities Engineering and Management
    • Operations - Business Unit Management
    • Operational Excellence
    • Technology Innovation (desirable)
    • Comprehensive in-depth knowledge of supply chain (products, customers, suppliers, plants) especially for involved technology platform
    • Strong business acumen and financial background

    • Ability to interact and communicate at different levels of the organization
    • Ability to work under pressure, handle conflicting interests, and take decisions
    • Ability to work independently under general direction, having a good sense of prioritization of assigned tasks goals and manage time accordingly
    • Strong knowledge of Quality & Compliance and regulatory requirements (GMP / EHS), especially for biologics.
      Good Manufacturing Practices (GxP): Adhere to applicable cGxP’s and procedures (role model)
      Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Adhere to applicable EH&S procedures

    Qualifications

    • A Master’s degree in Natural Sciences/Pharmacy or Engineering (or University equivalent) is required. An advanced degree is preferred. A minimum of 10 years related experience overall with past proven field experience in the following areas is required:

      • Strong theoretical and practical expertise in biotechnology manufacturing processes – vaccines and large molecule dosage forms, focused on engineering, new product development, manufacturing processes, materials aspects, packaging

      • Strong knowledge of Quality & Compliance and Regulatory requirements - (GMP/EHS), for biologics

      • Operational Excellence

      • Facility and Utilities Engineering and Management

      • Operations Business Unit Management

    • This position may require 25% domestic and international travel

    • Languages: Fluent in written and spoken English
