    Director of Statistics - Pharma

    Actelion is a leader in the field of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Our portfolio of PAH treatments covers the spectrum of disease, from WHO Functional Class (FC) II through to FC IV, with oral, inhaled and intravenous medications.


    Position Summary

    Due to realigning of statistics team, we are in search of a Director of Statistics to join our growing team.

    Representing statistics in the compound development team, you will provide strategic statistical direction through expert-level guidance and input to clinical development. The position manages direct reports as a people leader and leader in strategies, structures, processes, skills and culture within Statistics and Decision Sciences (SDS). Provides collaborative leadership to our drug development scientists through consultation and mentoring.

    This is an exciting and challenging role for a candidate with a strong interest in, and a deep understanding of the fundamentals of statistical methods and to build on these skills to explore and discover new ways to contribute with innovative statistical approaches in the support of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension research. Experience in PAH, health authority interactions, complex adaptive designs, synthetic control arms and real-world data is an advantage.

    Key responsibilities

    • Plays a central role in sharing knowledge and aligning the strategy across all SDS support (Pre/Early/Late Development, Research & Discovery, Medical Affairs, Real World Evidence, and Manufacturing Sciences) for a Disease/Functional Area.
    • Ensures consistent approaches across compounds and in alignment with regulatory guidance where appropriate
    • Develops and oversees the development of strategic quantitative frameworks and scenario simulations to evaluate risk tolerance and options in order to optimize program and analysis strategies.
    • Identifies opportunities for innovation, participates in program reviews/discussions
    • Bridges scientific and business needs – integrating quantitative sciences and strong disease or functional area knowledge and appropriate market/competitive intelligence.

    Qualifications
    • Ph.D. in Statistics or related field with minimum 9 years relevant experience, or Master’s in Statistics or related field with commensurate years of relevant experience.
    • Proficient in SAS or R programming.
    • Highly effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Demonstrated people leadership and management skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary contexts outside statistics.
    • Strong experience in regulatory activities (e.g. submissions, interactions with Health Authorities).
    • Demonstrates ability to influence drug research & development strategic plans formulated with Senior Management.
    • Has an advanced understanding of drug development processes and programs.
