Recently, Unilever decided to separate the Tea business to ensure it can best achieve its potential. Unilever is currently reviewing several options for separation, including a demerger, an initial public offering, a disposal or through partnership models. The Tea businesses in India and Indonesia, and the partnership interests in the ready-to-drink Tea joint ventures will be retained.

    Role Description:

    What are the main responsibilities within this role (short description)?

    Key area of focus for the role will be on Global Transfer Pricing as well as that this role will be dedicated to Direct tax affairs of the HQ tax function and overseeing direct tax compliance for global operations.

    Direct Tax and Global Compliance

    Supports the Head of Tax in the following

    • Advice and support to the HQ- and local finance teams & other business partners for all direct tax affairs

    • Management and oversight of the outsourced global tax compliance process for Direct tax , including corporate tax filings, withholding taxes and the like.

    • Provide audit support and play a pivotal role in maintaining relations with tax authorities.

    • Maintain solid working relations with outside advisors, the UL tax team with regards to separation, as well as towards external auditors.

    Transfer Pricing

    Manages the area of Transfer Pricing end-to-end, from (implementation of) transfer pricing framework design to execution on the documentation strategy:

    • Lead-involvement in transfer pricing processes for the various regional or global aspects of Tea Company’s business operations. This includes advice and recommendations on business initiatives related to Supply Chain, Procurement and Marketing.

    • Manage, monitor and update (where relevant) group TP processes and policies.

    • Manage and monitor TP documentation compliance for the group with support from external providers.

    What are the key tasks that must be facilitated within this role?

    Direct Tax

    • Managing the global Tax Compliance process (mostly external with Interim Managed Service provider (IMS) initially then with long term service provider)

    • Participation in tax audits with a focus on corporate tax law and transfer pricing:

    • Processing of tax enquiries and partnering the business on ad hoc projects

    • Works closely together with the Tax Risk reporting and technology manger on the interplay between tax compliance and – reporting.

    Transfer Pricing

    • Business partner for Finance, local tax teams and other stakeholders on transfer pricing matters. Support stakeholders in understanding the tax implications of a variety of activities and transactions.

    • First point of contact for Transfer Pricing related to new business initiatives taking into account transfer pricing regulations as well as other tax considerations (CIT, indirect tax, customs, WHT etc.).

    • Support Finance with the implementation of transfer pricing policies for various transactions.

    • Support the Head of Tax with internal communication and advice regarding changes to transfer pricing regulation.

    • Play a leading role in the update of TP reports and benchmarks for international transactions, coordinate between business stakeholders, outside service providers and external advisers.

    • Support the continuous development and improvement of group TP policies and guidelines ensuring transfer price methodology and pricing mechanics are fit for purpose and consistent across regions.

    • Deal proactively with global tax risk management and support the Head of Tax with implementing and executing governance programs to ensure transfer pricing policies are aligned with the business ways of working.

    • Support local tax teams with TP audits and Uni/Bi/Multilateral APAs by providing TP advice and collecting the relevant documentation.

    • Establish and monitor the availability of transfer pricing documentation that complies with local tax authorities’ requirements as well as OECD guidelines.

    Scope/interfaces/relevant stakeholders for this role?

    • Reporting directly to the Tea company Head of Tax.

    • Will be supported by 4 group tax analysts in US, UAE, Turkey, Malaysia

    • Interaction with internal and external parties which will play a role in tax compliance.

    • Candidate expected to work closely with finance/supply chain teams

    • Part of Central Tea co Tax team

    Flexibility for this Role (Working Model, Mobility):

    Fulltime role, office-based with remote/flexible options.


    Candidate Background:

    Educational Background/Work History:

    • University education in Economics, Tax Law, Finance, Business or Accounting

    • Degree level education in any discipline

    • Certified Tax Advisor with at least 8 years of professional experience in large multionaltional and/or Big4 background,

    • Knowledge of Fast Moving Consumer Goods and global supply chains.

    Professional Knowledge/Skill Requirements:

    • Fluent in English

    • Practical experience and interest in direct tax compliance

    • Solid experience in international tax law

    • Transfer Pricing knowledge (good understanding of the latest BEPS action plans)

    • Solid experience in transfer pricing matters, compliance and advisory in Multi-National Enterprises.

    • Experience with handling international corporate tax matters across a wide variety of stakeholders

    • Strong project management skills with strong financial and business acumen

    • Good MS Office knowledge
