    Business Excellence Team Lead (Lean Sigma Black Belt)

    Abbott Vascular Netherlands in Heerlen, The Netherlands is responsible for the worldwide distribution of Abbott’s vascular products. From our 10,000 m2 warehouse we ship an average of 1,700 deliveries per day (72,500 units per month) to hospitals, Abbott distributors and Abbott affiliates in Europe, Middle East, Africa and South America.

    Every day, more than 150 employees in our warehouse and in supporting departments work on processing customer orders, maintaining a high service level to ensure that our customers receive the right products on time. With our TIER structure, Abbott Vascular Netherlands offers a complete and high standard Supply Chain solution, including an extensive range of value-add logistics activities such as labeling, relabeling and reworking of products to meet country specific needs.

    At the moment we are looking for a Business Excellence Team Lead (Lean Sigma Black Belt) to join us on a full-time basis.

    The Business Excellence team includes Manufacturing Engineering, Shared Services and Warehouse Support. The team supports the AVN organization in various aspects such as Facility Management, EHS, training, process improvements and operational excellence.


    The Business Excellence Team Lead drives Operational Excellence and leads the Warehouse Support team of 4 specialists, whose responsibilities include reporting/analytics, warehouse training, issue solving (incl. SAP) and projects.

    Primary objectives:

    Drive Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement in the AVN Warehouse and Supporting Functions by leading the Warehouse Support Team, developing the Abbott Operating System for Business Excellence, and improving the Lean Sigma problem solving capability in the organization.

    Major accountabilities:

    • Manage activities, priorities and allocate resources within the Team
    • Supervise, coach and develop Team Members
    • Drive Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement in the AVN Warehouse and Supporting Functions
    • Develop AVN employees by teaching, coaching and facilitating Lean Sigma problem solving methodology
    • Contribute to financial (CIP) goals through Continuous Improvement initiatives.
    • Serve as delegate of the Manager BEX as required
    • Member of and BEX representative in the MMT – site Middle Management team
    • Develop and improve the Abbott Operating System for Business Excellence
    • Coach throughout all levels on lean behaviors and lead by example
    • Lead or Facilitate A3 problem solving and Kaizens
    • Site coordinator for “beyond” and MBO education for Warehouse personnel
    • Change Agent for the Abbott Operating System and Continuous Improvement culture

    Education and competences:

    • Bachelor’s degree within engineering is a pre
    • Several years of relevant work experience within a similar role
    • Lean (Six) Sigma Black Belt training is required, certification is preferred
    • Experience in Medical Device industry is a pre
    • Experience in a logistic or technical environment is a pre
    • Previous Management experience is a pre
    • Experience/knowledge of SAP is a pre
    • Out of the box thinker with a go-getter attitude
    • Excellent communication skills, influencing and convincing skills.
    • Result-oriented, good organizational and planning skills, able to set clear priorities and goals, takes decisions in time, anticipate where needed
    • Fluent in English and Dutch (both verbally and in writing)
