    Associate Scientist

    The Vaccine Generation group is part of the Viral Vaccines department of Janssen Vaccines & Prevention (JVP) and focuses on the research and development of vaccines against viral infectious diseases. The group is responsible for the design, generation, production, and characterization of recombinant viral vectors, for applied research in the vaccine field. Interaction with R&D groups in the organization is an important aspect of our work. You will join a stimulating group of researchers in a very collaborative environment. We are looking for an Associate Scientist to strengthen our team in developing innovative vaccine candidates aimed to prevent and treat life-threatening diseases.

    As an experienced Associate Scientist (Technician), you will be working under the supervision of a (senior) Scientist to support programs by generating, characterizing our (adeno) viral vectored vaccines, and improving our assays and procedures. Work within our team is dynamic and requires a flexible attitude. You will analyze and interpret data, propose the next steps, and report/present to (senior) colleagues. Cooperation and communication are important to all levels within the department. This job requires you to be an expert in techniques like (q)PCR, sequence analysis, standard DNA cloning, western blot, and cell culture. An interest in keeping up-to-date with relevant scientific literature is a plus.

    Expected activities include but are not limited to:

    • Cloning of viral vectored vaccines using molecular techniques
    • Generation and characterization of viral vectors
    • Plan, design, conduct, and troubleshoot complex experiments
    • Present results to team members and senior colleagues

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education: you have finished an HLO or master's education with significant molecular, (bio)chemical, and virology training with more than 5 years of working experience in a relevant position. Furthermore, proven experience in molecular biology showing a good understanding of the matter is required.

    Required skills:

    (q)PCR, standard DNA cloning techniques, sequence analysis, cell culture, western blotting

    Preferred skills:

    Experience working in ML-2 laboratory with viral vectors.

    Specific Knowledge:

    Experience with adenoviral vectors is a plus.
