Shell Asset Management Company B.V. (SAMCo) in Rijswijk is the dedicated in-house asset manager for the Royal Dutch Shell Group sponsored pension funds and insurance companies and currently manages around USD 90 billion of assets for its clients. SAMCo is supervised by the Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) and the Dutch Central Bank (DNB). The company is internationally oriented with clients in 10 different countries and approximately 160 employees of different nationalities and is located in the The Hague area in The Netherlands.
SAMCo’s objective is to provide high quality and cost-effective investment advice and asset management services to its clients. On behalf of its clients, SAMCo invests globally in fixed income, equities and alternative investment categories such as private equity, real estate and hedge funds. Continuous change in financial markets and regulations, as well as the diversity of SAMCo’s clients and the products they invest in, make it a professionally challenging environment to work in.
What’s the role?
You will be a member of SAMCo’s Strategy Team, which consists of 7 staff members. The main responsibilities of the team are:
Clients’ strategic asset allocation including supporting Asset Liability Management (ALM) processes and implementation planning;
Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) policy and portfolio integration;
Client portfolio rebalancing; and
Providing clients with macro-economic and financial market commentary and contributing to client reporting.
In the role of Investment Strategist, you will contribute to the Strategy Team’s advice on the investment environment in general and on the asset allocation of SAMCo’s clients, with a focus on ALM.
Your prime responsibility will be to expand the current ALM environment, which uses a.o. Ortec’s GLASS ALM modelling tool, to additional international clients, ensuring that the scope is integrated with SAMCo’s clients’ risk and return objectives. Next to that, your responsibility will be to integrate the ALM work into concrete Strategic Asset Allocation advice including changes in the asset mix and/or liability hedge ratios taking into account changing market circumstances.
You will work closely together with the other Strategy Team members and with the SAMCo Client Focal Points as well as the various front office team specialists from the fixed income, equities and externally managed funds teams.
What we need from you?
We are looking for a person who has been active in ALM studies for a long period with a proven long-term track record at a leading consultancy firm or at another asset manager
A Master's degree in Quantitative Finance, Financial Economics, Mathematics, Physics or Business Studies, preferably with CFA or VBA qualification
A degree in or experience with actuarial sciences and expertise with GLASS are strong pluses
Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills, in addition to the capacity to translate complex analysis into a concise investment case
You are a strong team player with good interpersonal and communication skills
You have excellent verbal and written command of the English language as well as good presentation skills
