    For the period February 2022 – July 2022

    Are you interested in international affairs and the opportunities Europe and the EU can offer for cities like Leeuwarden? Do you have experience with project management? And do you possess great organizing skills? Then we’d like to get in touch with you!

    Currently, the process of drafting a new Europe Agenda for the municipality of Leeuwarden is coming to an end. This agenda describes the municipality’s European activities in the upcoming years. From the end of 2021 onwards, we will be working on the implementation of this agenda, and we are now looking for an intern to support us in that effort.

    Your main work for Leeuwarden during the internship will be twofold. On the one hand, you will assist the municipality’s Team Europe with the daily management of specific European projects on a range of diverging topics, such as climate, culture tourism and innovation. However, in order to get involved in such projects in the first place and be (more) effective in the execution of them and the implementation of other policies, both European and national networks of cities, regions and other parties can be of great help. Therefore, you will also assist Leeuwarden in increasing, (re-)focusing and/or deepening its involvement in a number of networks it already forms part of, and help the municipality complete (possible) procedures of acquiring membership of new networks.

    Your tasks include:
    • Engaging in contact with the representatives of European networks, preparing (internal) documents regarding the deepening, renewal or (possible) start of (new) memberships and communicating progress and developments regarding European networks externally;
    • Supporting the organization of international project and network meetings;
    • Supporting the development of international projects;
    • Writing press releases, website texts and social media texts;
    • Planning meetings, preparing input for meetings and taking notes;
    • There is room for a specific internship assignment. However, it should be emphasized that this is a participatory rather than a research or thesis internship.
