    The Challenge

    This is a full time position, based at our facilities in Den Bosch.

    With its so-called “innovation corridors” Royal Agrifirm Group (RAG) is exploring novel technologies and business models to prepare our agricultural systems for a sustainable future. One of the challenges in todays’ feed business, is the non-circular nature of protein rich raw materials. Many of these raw material are in competition with land use for food production systems or are affiliated with a negative environmental impact. Based on RAG’s corridor approach, we aim to include higher levels of co-products that originate from the food and biofuel industry in our animal feed. These co-products, however, do not always fit with the nutritional requirements, which therefore require novel upgrading technologies.

    Our R&D team Biobased Technology is developing a new fermentation process to create a single cell protein feed ingredient from low cost co-products. In the future, this ingredient could be used as a sustainable protein source in animal feed. Within this project, we are looking for a professional with a (bio)technology education who can support us with lab and pilot based experiments. As we are a young and dynamic team, we are flexible to shape this role towards your unique profile and personal talents. Therefore, we also encourage those who don’t have a 100% fit to the job description to apply to this vacancy, as long as you share our passion with fermentation and sustainable innovation. Most important is your willingness and experience to work in a hands-on environment and spend most of your time at our fermentation laboratory and pilot facilities, located at one of Agrifirm’s industrial sites in Den Bosch.

    Your responsibilities

    • In good collaboration with your teammates, you draw up research proposals for laboratory and pilot-scale experiments towards improvement of our fermentation process;
    • You will carry out (parts of) these proposals independently;
    • You perform data analysis and explain your findings by literature studies;
    • You stay up-to-date on scientific trends, product developments, and research results;
    • You maintain partnerships internally and externally with e.g. knowledge centers and universities;
    • You use your skills as a communicator. This includes the interaction with colleagues during the project as well as with external partners when outsourcing experiments.

    What’s on your CV?

    • A Master or PhD in bioscience engineering, biochemistry, biotechnology, food technology, or a related field. (A first) work experience is a plus, but not a necessity;
    • You have affinity with biotechnology and knowledge of microbial and enzymatic processes;
    • Knowledge of bioreactor technology is an advantage;
    • You are fluent in English, comprehension of the Dutch language is a plus.
