    Research Technician (Biotechnician)

    The technician will closely work with other technicians in the department, and with PhD students and post-docs in the Hol group. It is a full time position for 1 year, which can lead to a permanent position. The research is performed in an international environment. The tasks will be: breeding of mouse lines; genotyping; responsibility for specific lab equipment; performing a broad range of immunohistochemical, cell biological, and molecular biological experiments for ongoing projects.


    The Department of Translational Neuroscience is the preclinical department of the Division Neuroscience of the University Medical Center Utrecht. The research mission of the Department of Translational Neuroscience is to discover and delineate mechanisms and processes which are fundamental to the development of neural systems and to the control of behavior, and to translate these to pathogenesis and disease models. The unique advantage of this department of Neuroscience is its embedding in the clinical environment of UMCU and its multidisciplinary character. The Department’s toolkit includes lightsheet microscopy, optogenetics, electrophysiology, and iPSC lab, an own animal facility, viral vector generation and more. The research group of Elly Hol studies the role of glia in brain diseases.


    We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled research technician, who is interested in neuroscience and glia biology in brain diseases. It is essential that the applicant is able and interested in working in an international multidisciplinary team of researchers. In addition, the applicant needs to have good writing and presenting skills in English. As the technician will be responsible for the animal experiments in the Hol group, the applicant needs to be FELASA certified (artikel 13f2 / biotechnisch).

    The maximum salary for this position (32 - 36 hours) is € 3.280,00 gross per month based on full-time employment.
