    Research Assistant for North Sea sustainable innovation programme

    The Faculty Campus Fryslân is accepting applications from prospective research assistants to work on the Interreg funded project ‘PROWAD LINK PROTECT & PROSPER’. This interdisciplinary project seeks to enhance small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sustainability in the North Sea Region (Wadden Sea World Heritage Site, Geiranger Fjord World Heritage Site, Wash & North Norfolk Coast European Marine Site).

    The research assistant will support the development and execution of a Sustainable Innovation Challenges for the North Sea Region, a new project activity that will run for the duration of 2022.

    The Sustainable Innovation Challenge seeks to identify and support the development of innovative sustainable ideas and concepts. This will involve promotion, communication and planning of the innovation challenge, the planning and execution of bootcamps, and supporting and guiding selected innovations through a bespoke innovation and business development program. The position will also involve the collection and analysis of data, and writing-up of research results and conclusions. The research assistant will be given the opportunity to co-author articles on the outcomes of associated research in international scientific journals.

    The candidate will:

    • support the design, development and management of the sustainable innovation challenge(s)
    • undertaken communication and promotion of the sustainable innovation challenge(s), through local, regional and international networks
    • support the design and execution of bootcamps and/ or hackathons
    • support the management and execution of bespoke innovation and business development program
    • collect and analyse research data and write-up research results.


    We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague with demonstrable organizational and research skills, with a background in innovation/ entrepreneurship/ business or equivalent fields with:

    • undergraduate and/ or master’s degree in business/ management or related social science
    • excellent record of undergraduate and/or graduate study
    • excellent command of spoken and written English. Knowledge of Dutch and/ or German is considered a plus
    • excellent organisation and planning skills
    • ability to work both independently and as part of a team
    • affinity with working in a young and dynamic organisation.

    Conditions of employment

    We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

    • a salary depending on qualifications and work experience and is up to a maximum of € 4,078 gross per month (salary scale 9) for a full-time position
    • excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees
    • a temporary contract for 11 months (project duration).

    This position is opened up in the framework of the Projectenbank, one of the projects of the Talent Travel Program. This means that all internal candidates can apply after consulting with their supervisor. Candidates with a permanent employment will be able to return to their current position.

    The start-date for the position is 1 February 2022
