PhD: Peripheral targeting of TNFR1 and Lcn2 as treatment for Alzheimer’s disease
Functiebeschrijving We recently found that intraperitoneal application of the TNF receptor 2 agonist, improved spatial learning and abrogated amyloid plaque formation in a J20 Alzheimer mouse model. We want to test the hypothesis whether systemically blocking TNFR1 and Lcn2 can also improve AD related cognitive dysfunction and pathology. This preclinical, animal research protocol is a proof of concept study to provide evidence whether targeting systemic TNF receptors and Lcn2 are promising targets for AD treatment. The specific human TNFR modulators that will be used in this project are available and some of these will soon be tested in clinical trials for other diseases than Alzheimer's disease. Knowledge gained from the studies proposed in this grant application can help to define whether those compounds can also be used for treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
