PhD Candidate Bioanalysis in Neglected Tropical Diseases
Jouw functie We are searching for a PhD candidate for an exciting and high-impact research project to develop new bioanalytical methods using LC-MS/MS for the determination of drugs mainly against the neglected tropical disease leishmaniasis. The activities will entail amongst others the development of bioanalytical assays for novel oral new chemical entities (small molecules) against cutaneous leishmaniasis to assess target-site pharmacokinetics, including skin tissue and skin microdialysis, in Leishmania infection models, as well as the development of less invasive sampling methods that can be used in resource-poor settings. The project is part of an international collaboration on translational drug development for cutaneous leishmaniasis.
The research will be executed within the Bioanalytical Laboratory of the Pharmacy of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital (AVL) and will be in part performed in collaboration with the non-profit organization Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi). Jouw profiel You are an enthusiastic (bio)pharmacist, pharmaceutical or (bio)medical scientist, or analytical chemist, who is highly passionate about drug research, preferably with an interest in international healthcare or tropical medicine and experience with bioanalytical research.
You are well able to operate independently in the lab and think out-of-the-box.
Already during your studies, you have demonstrated an excellent academic and critical scientific attitude.
You possess excellent social and communicative skills, particularly in English.
You possess project management skills and are able to communicate and manage other multidisciplinary international project partners.
You have previous experience with LC-MS/MS or other bioanalytical technologies, and/or have previous experience with sample preparation development.
Jouw ontwikkelingsmogelijkheden en arbeidsvoorwaarden The temporary employment will be for a period of 4 years and will be completed with a PhD degree at Utrecht University.
The gross salary per month will range from € 2.882,- to € 3.322,- according to the standard PhD scales. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals). In addition you will receive a fixed end-of-year bonus in December (8,33%) and in May you will receive 8,33% holiday pay.
