    Patient Relations & Communications Manager

    The Patient Relations & Communications Manager will become the expert who understands how to uncover the unique needs and challenges of people living with (chronicle) diseases. You will develop and implement patient relations- and (digital) communications strategy in a range of therapeutic areas to elevate patient voice, raise awareness of new treatment options and enhance AbbVie’s reputation. You develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders such as patient organizations & advocacy, media and healthcare organizations. In this role you will report to the Manager Public Relations.


    • Collaborate with patient organizations on programs that will enhance awareness and understanding of diseases and/or disease related themes and will raise the awareness and support for new treatment options.
    • Monitor (patient & media) environment and proactively share insights and address trends with your teams
    • Develop and drive disease awareness, - recognition and -education strategies to improve access to early diagnosis and treatment and improve patient care.
    • Play a key role in bringing in patient perspective in our cross-functional teams, propose patient- and (digital) communications strategies which synergize with cross-functional brand objectives, reputation efforts and affiliate objectives.
    • Ensure projects meet market needs, priorities, and deadlines. Manage budget allocated to patient and (digital) communication projects.
    • Highlights therapeutic area expertise in (trade) media (e.g. product launches, patient centric programs).
    • Establish and maintain relationships with key patient organizations, media and healthcare organizations.
    • Participate in Corporate and Area public affairs network, share best practices and key learnings and identify synergies/ common projects to work on.
    • Acts as Champion/Expert within brand team relating to the relevant compliance policies; translates policy into daily practice in cooperation with Champions Network and OEC. Advises, trains and encourages the brand- and infield team, shows example behavior, takes ownership and pro-actively suggests improvements.


    Experience & Qualifications

    • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Communications or equivalent
    • Around 5 years’ experience in Communications/Public Relations.
    • Preferably with previous experience of partnering with a patient organization or non-profit organizations; being able to emphasize with patients to build insights into their needs/issues and strengthening communication channels.
    • Proven affinity with healthcare environment and knowledge of relevant trends.
    • Experience in digital (marketing) communication: communication planning, execution, and process management on multiple tasks, manage agency support.
    • Demonstrates initiative, creativity and strategic, analytical and leadership capabilities.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal, writing, and verbal communications skills (in Dutch and English)
    • You are a flexible team player and an effective networker.
    • You can balance well between strategic and operational work.
    • Preferably full-time (40 hours per week), 80-90% to be discussed
