Operational Risk Manager (focus on innovation)

    Imagine...

…you can work as an Operational Risk Manager in the international wholesale and rural oriented business of Rabobank Wholesale & Rural (W&R) and can make the difference by supporting, challenging innovative proposition from W&R Innovation. At first your main focus will be on the rapid growing Acorn (Agroforestry Carbon Removal Unit) proposition, enabling it to scale-up and move into a mature business within the boundaries of W&R risk appetite. You will do this by, supporting and challenging Acorn on managing their key risk, by having a strong control framework in place, which should mitigate these risk to the acceptable levels.

You will be part of the operational risk oversight team within Risk Management W&R. Next to Acorn, you will also be involved in the management and oversight of the operational risk profile of W&R Innovation. Gradually you will get involved with other innovation propositions, including the Carbon Bank (which is outside of W&R Innovations), but has many similarities with Acorn.

In your role you will be working closely with the Acorn team, have discussions with the Head of Acorn and other Innovation leads/product. Further you will work closely with the other members of the CLR W&R Innovation Oversight team and other relevant stakeholders (Business architect, IT-risk, RCP W&R Innovation etc.).

    Making a difference

    • Having a professional attitude based on thorough Banking experience and knowledge in several areas.

    • Having a keen interest in Innovation and in an agile way ensuring risk management is done according to the requirements of Rabobank.

    • Proactive and result driven approach in supporting and challenging risk management activities in the bank, especially in the international W&R environment.

    • An independent way of working with impact which helps to realize the banks goals and strategy.

    With each other
Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. In an environment where Rabobank is heading towards the next level of automation and in a growing complex world/organisation we need people who enjoy change, complex problem solving with agility and networking skills. Our Risk Management/OpRisk W&R global team (as a 2nd line of responsibility) brings talented people together to guard the risk profile of the bank by implementing, owning and maintaining a strong Risk Control Framework across the whole organisation. Together we are building a better world with empowered people who are building trust! With you as an Operational Risk Manager, the team will consist of 10 colleagues in Utrecht and approximately 60 colleagues globally.

Karin Hartonian: “We work closely together as a team, and yet are able to work flexibly and independently. We are often dealing with new and varied challenges and our open communication helps us to be connected, not only within our central team but with our colleagues overseas”.

Alfonso Vera Evertman: “In our role we are involved with a broad scope of topics related to the non-financial risk aspect of the Wholesale and Rural businesses. This could means today you have a meeting with senior management discussing strategic changes of a Global Business line and tomorrow you have a call with employees to understand an operational incident which happened in their department. As a senior operational risk manager I can really add value to the business and innovation, by asking the right risk management challenging questions and provide risk opinions on strategy updates, new (innovative) products or material changes. But also through monitoring of parts of the Risk Control Framework which could potential impact the risk profile of a business line. When you combine this with being able to work in a divers team of colleagues and were helping each other and working together is a key value, I can only conclude this is a fulfilling.”
