Marketing and Communications Adviser for the Centre for Security & Digitalisation
Security and digitisation are becoming increasingly intertwined. On the one hand, digitisation is leading to new security problems, such as the many different forms of cybercrime, as well as problems caused by professionals’ lack of understanding of increasingly complex digital systems. On the other, however, it offers opportunities and options for tackling security issues. These include new digital detection methods and in particular those involving the advanced analysis of a range of data streams. This creates anincreasing demand for professionals from different areas of application to enrich the knowledge of methods and techniques in the digital domain and further their own expertise. This knowledge and expertise is important for a better safeguarding of security in general.
The Centre for Security & Digitalisation
In September 2021, the Centre for Security and Digitalisation (CVD) opened its doors in Apeldoorn. At the initiative of Saxion University of Applied Sciences, the University of Twente (UT), ROC Aventus, the Police Academy (PA), the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, the Municipality of Apeldoorn and companies in Apeldoorn, this knowledge centre will contribute to the security of our increasingly digital society. The CVD primarily aims to further the training of professionals from domains where advanced digitisation has a prominent role in combination with security matters. This is done by offering a range of educational and research activities to both students and company staff.
The CVD partners are committed to developing the knowledge centre into a national institute that offers high-quality education for regular students and professionals. The Centre will also be a hub for applied research into social issues in the fields of security and digitisation.
The CVD is based on three pillars:
Education: Saxion and the Police Academy offer higher professional training courses at the centre. Furthermore, the VeiligheidsLAB is point of contact for practical questions – from both public and private organisations – regarding education and research at the relevant educational institutions.
Research The University of Twente in collaboration with Saxion and the Police Academy, is developing a demand-driven research agenda for security and digitisation.
Entrepreneurship: Start-ups are given room to develop in and around the Centre.
