Managing Director for the European University of Brain and Technology (NeurotechEU) (1.0 FTE)

Managing Director for the European University of Brain and Technology (NeurotechEU)

    • Employment: 1.0 FTE
    • Gross monthly salary: € 5,542 - € 7,054
    • Business Office
    • Required background: Research University Degree
    • Application deadline: 15 January 2022

In order to facilitate, coordinate and implement NeurotechEU at Radboud University, we are looking for a managing director.

The project is in its initial phase, hence the focus lies on setting up the project, networking and building the foundation required for the European University of Brain and Technology (NeurotechEU). NeurotechEU is currently managed by the project coordinator who is responsible for the content of the programme. You find an extensive description of NeurotechEU and its challenges here. As managing director you will be based at Radboud Services (about 850 fte's), which comprises the central support facilities of Radboud University. The ambition of Radboud Services is to contribute to the realisation of the University's strategic goals, for example by educational policy development and valorisation of research.

As managing director you should have an entrepreneurial and creative mindset, meaning, initiating and rolling out the project like a "start-up". This means you will constantly explore chances and opportunities and organise all that is required to successfully transfer them into plans, projects and outcomes. You will be responsible for the overall development and monitoring of measures and activities, budget planning and the legal framework. Furthermore, you will be responsible for the communication and coordination between the European Commission and Radboud University as leading partner in the NeurotechEU Alliance, and all participating partners. Together with the project coordinator, you will manage the implementation of the eight Work Packages at Radboud University and the alignment with various partners. Moreover, you will lead the consortium's Work Package 1 'General Management and Coordination'. As leader of Work Package 1, you will be part of NeurotechEU board of governors, which will consist of the eight Work Package leaders. As managing director you will report to the director of Radboud Services.

    Your duties:
    • Coordination of all cooperation between NeurotechEU, its partners and Radboud University, working closely with the project coordinator, rector, deans, academic and support staff, and students.
    • Coordination of the eight Work Packages at Radboud University.
    • Responsibility for Work Package 1 'General Management and Coordination'.
    • Member of NeurotechEU board of governors.
    • Chairing the Radboud team meetings and developing good practices with a view to taking Radboud University forward in realising its ambitions in NeurotechEU.
    • Overseeing planning in terms of activities, finance, legal impact and the organisation of this initiative together with regional, national and international stakeholders (and in close cooperation with the project coordinator).
    • Responsibility for internal and external communication on behalf of Radboud University (in close cooperation with the project coordinator).
    • Filling in for the project coordinator in his or her absence.

    Profile

    • You hold a university degree (Master's degree or equivalent, preferably linked to brain research and technologies or related field of study; a PhD degree would be an asset).
    • You are a team player with a hands-on mentality and have excellent communication skills. You are able to motivate, engage and lead teams with a high level of intercultural sensitivity.
    • You have proven management skills (in process and project management, finance, and dealing with legal issues) in an international and online environment.
    • You have experience with managing and leading projects and developing strategies and policies related to higher education, research and innovation.
    • You have demonstrable experience of working on a par with university leaders, managing networks and multiple stakeholders.
    • You have a track record in successfully transforming programmes involving actors from various organisational levels.
    • You have a good knowledge of European policies and the functioning of EU institutions in the area of higher education. Experience with working in hybrid organisations or H2020 and Erasmus+ projects would be an asset.

    We are

Radboud University wants to contribute to a free and healthy world with equal opportunities for all and to make a significant impact on regional and international levels. Our university is a global leader in neuroscience and the lead in NeurotechEU.

Neuroscience has a key role in addressing some of the most pressing challenges that we face in Europe today. Brain research is providing solutions for society at large. The challenge can be the translation of fundamental research to advance the state of the art in the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of brain disorders, or explaining the complex interactions between the brain, individuals and their environments to design novel practices in cities, schools, hospitals or companies. Neuroscience has a great promise to provide brain-inspired solutions that could benefit society and kindle a new economy in Europe. NeurotechEU aims to be the backbone of this vision, shaping the university of the future and pushing the boundaries of knowledge.

NeurotechEU seamlessly integrates internationalisation, cross-continental innovation, higher education, research and business. We envisage integrated and open study programmes and hope to contribute to the emergence of European degrees. By pooling educational and training capacity, and utilising next generation virtual exchange and modern mobility, we intend to increase cooperation between students and researchers.

    Radboud University
We want to get the best out of science, others and ourselves. Why? Because this is what the world around us desperately needs. Leading research and education make an indispensable contribution to a healthy, free world with equal opportunities for all. This is what unites the almost 25,000 students and 5,600 employees at Radboud University. And this requires even more talent, collaboration and lifelong learning. You have a part to play!

    We offer

    • Employment for 1.0 FTE.
    • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €5,542 and a maximum of €7,054 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 14).
    • You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
    • This is a temporary position for one year with the possibility of a permanent contract.
    • You will be able to use our Dual Career and Family Care Services. Our Dual Career and Family Care Officer can assist you with family-related support, help your partner or spouse prepare for the local labour market, provide customized support in their search for employment and help your family settle in Nijmegen.
    • Working for us means getting extra days off. In case of full-time employment, you can choose between 29 or 41 days of annual leave instead of the legally allotted 20.
    Additional employment conditions
Work and science require good employment practices. This is reflected in Radboud University's primary and secondary employment conditions. You can make arrangements for the best possible work-life balance with flexible working hours, various leave arrangements and working from home. You are also able to compose part of your employment conditions yourself, for example, exchange income for extra leave days and receive a reimbursement for your sports subscription. And of course, we offer a good pension plan. You are given plenty of room and responsibility to develop your talents and realise your ambitions. Therefore, we provide various training and development schemes.
