Our Department participates in the fourth evaluation of the Dutch Euthanasia Act which is commissioned by the Dutch government and funded by ZonMw. You will intensively collaborate with the other partners involved in the project. These are experts from the fields of health sciences and health law from Erasmus MC, University Medical Center Rotterdam, and the Amsterdam University Medical Center. There will be three junior researchers active in the consortium, who together will cover four substudies. Substudy 1 covers legal aspects and substudy 3 will study medical practice. The researcher we are seeking here will work in close collaboration with the researchers at Erasmus MC in substudy 2 in which the functioning of the RTE is empirically assessed, and in substudy 4 in which the results of the other three substudies (and previous research) are analysed ethically.
In addition to these research activities the Junior Researcher will also contribute to the educational activities of the department of Medical Humanities in Utrecht. This task will comprise about 0,2 FTE of the position.
You will be appointed at the Department of Medical Humanities, Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care of the UMC Utrecht. Our Department consists of the disciplines medical ethics, medical history, health law, and narrative medicine . We are a team of two full professors, two associate and six assistant professors, and more than 15 PhD students. We participate in various research projects, in teaching and (international) advisory boards and committees. Your supervisors will be prof. dr. Hans van Delden and dr. Ghislaine van Thiel for UMC Utrecht and prof dr Agnes van der Heide and prof dr Suzanne van de Vathorst for Erasmus MC in Rotterdam.
You have obtained a Master’s thesis in Philosophy, Ethics, Humanities, Medicine or Life Sciences. In particular you have demonstrated interest in clinical ethics and/or end-of-life decisions. You are able to perform academic ethical research. You are able to collaborate with people from different disciplines. You have good organizational skills. You have excellent didactic, written and verbal Dutch and English skills.
This position will be a full time (1,0 fte), temporary appointment for 14 months, starting on January 1st 2022.
