The University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) is one of the largest hospitals in the Netherlands and the largest employer in the north of the Netherlands. Over 13,000 staff work in patient care, education and training and in prominent and cutting-edge medical research, focusing on ‘healthy ageing ´. Within this overarching theme of Healthy Ageing, research at UMCG focuses among others on innovative diagnostics, treatments and prevention, including the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI).
Data Science Center in Health (DASH) DASH is part of the UMCG and founded to stimulate the use of data science in health, research and education, and to initiate collaborations with external partners. It is a knowledge hub, community and facilitator in the area of health data science. The aim of DASH is to advance data science in health by supporting innovative research projects and by bringing experts in data science, machine learning and AI together. DASH coordinates the AIProHealth project and the ELSA AI lab Northern Netherlands and looks for a Junior officer who wants to contribute to responsible implementation of AI in Healthcare to support both projects.
AIProHealth AIProHealth is an international project funded by a EIT Health Campus grant. The aim of the AIProHealth project is to develop a customisable AI teaching environment containing a massive open online course (MOOC) and a Face2Face course with as most important aspect a serious game. The MOOC provides a first insight into the many aspects of AI in healthcare while the Face2Face course will focus on the actual implementation of AI in healthcare practice. The focus of the training will be on the patient's journey, highlighting specific phases such as pre-care and diagnosis, as AI could play a major role in this in the near future.
ELSA AI lab Northern Netherlands (ELSA-NN) ELSA-NN is a consortium consisting of knowledge institutions, societal partners, business partners and patient and public organizations. It is committed to the promotion of healthy living, working and ageing. By investigating the ELSA (Ethical, Legal and Societal), cultural and psychological aspects of the use of AI in different decision-making contexts and integrating this knowledge into an online ELSA tool, ELSA-NN aims to contribute to knowledge, development and implementation of trustworthy human-centric AI. ELSA-NN is set-up as a learning health system in which much attention will be paid to dialogue, communication and education.
Function description ELSA-NN:
offer organisational and administrative support for ELSA-NN (organising meetings, maintain contact with consortium partners, project documentation);
ELSA-NN communication (both internal and external, via mailings, newsletters, website);
offer ad hoc support to ELSA-NN researchers (eg with data collection).
Development and implementation of learning materials on AI in healthcare;
Communication with and coordination of the international team of educators;
Design and support in the further development of the project.
Wat vragen wij
BSC or MSc level;
interest in responsible implementation of AI;
scientific knowledge in a relevant domain;
ability to work both independently and in multidisciplinary teams;
strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
pro-active and flexible;
a good command of English.
Wat bieden wij
This concerns a position for a period of one year (for 28.8 - 36 hours a week). Your salary will be a maximum of € 3.863,- gross per month (scale 8), depending on your qualifications and relevant experience, based on a full-time appointment. In addition, the UMCG will offer you 8% holiday pay, and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centres (CAO-UMC).
