Junior IT-scientist machine learning / AI | Groningen
Designing an application that predicts the gas consumption of households or the failure risk of dykes. Investigating how multiple organisations can combine their real-time data. Or improving the autonomy of IT systems and robots so that they adapt themselves to changing circumstances. Just a few examples of your very diverse range of tasks. As a junior IT scientist, you will work on solutions – for example through AI and machine learning – for complex monitoring and control tasks. You do so for domains such as renewable energy, industry and infrastructure and for parties such as Rijkswaterstaat and Defence. In this challenging position in Groningen, you get all the freedom you need to surprise us with your ideas.
What will be your role?
By conducting applied research into innovations, you are preparing the world for the future. Slightly pretentious? Well, you might just end up designing the new earthquake model for Groningen together with geophysicists at TNO. How do you approach such a project? You start by reading up: what exactly is the question and what trends are there? You then brainstorm with colleagues and investigate which technologies you can use. If you have a design, you program this prototype yourself or in a team. You set up the software architecture and build a proof of concept, which you then present to the client. You explain in clear language which technical choices you have made and how exactly your tool or system works.
Within the Monitoring & Control Services team, you work on several small and larger projects simultaneously. Within this team, we each have our own expertise, so we complement each other well. You also work with internal and external clients, such as sustainability experts within TNO or data analysts from Rijkswaterstaat. If you join us, you will work for several different domains. What we expect from you

Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO:
A university degree/PhD in computer science or similar, supplemented by courses in areas such as AI, machine learning, robotics and pattern recognition.
Some experience with AI platforms and libraries, such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
Knowledge and preferably experience with software development based on CI/CD (using, for instance, GitLab).
Programming skills (using, for example, Java, Python, Scala, Go and Rust) and the desire to learn new techniques.
Preferably experience with Docker and Kubernetes and with applying algorithms in AI and machine learning.
Preferably experience with setting up and managing virtual infrastructures in public cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS and/or private cloud environments (such as Open Stack and Proxmox).

The selection process
Please apply before January 10, 2022. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. The preliminary interview takes place on January 13, 2022. The second interview round has been scheduled for January 19, 2022. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.
